Is Dodge pulling the wool over us or am I reading this inncorrectly. It says that a Dodge 5500 can only pull 18,000 lbs. What if you had a GN @ 25k, would that be over the limmit for these trucks? I just checked the Ford site and it says GCVW is 33k or 24,100 lbs on the hitch..... Where is the GCVW on the Dodge site?

WOW, that means a truck rated @ 19,ooo lbs can't pull it's own weight? If you had a QC 4x4 with a simple bed, what would it weigh... 12k? 26,000 minus 12,000 is only 14,000 lbs on the hitch? Why or how does Ford rate their trucks for so much more?

Know this though, in some states, a CDL is required to drive a vehicle with a QCVW of 26,001+ towing a trailer with a GVW of 10,001+... .

Actually, the ratings are what each company is happy with. There are no standards, so every manufacturer makes their own decision. For example, the Honda Ridgeline is 'rated' to haul more than a 2500 series Dodge. Wanna try it?



Someone on a website said they saw the same weight loads on a Dodge 3500 and a Ford F350. The loads were over the Dodge rating, but under the Ford rating by well over a ton. The Ford was sitting lower than the Dodge.

All that crap is big company lawyer driven. That truck can and will handle a lot more then the "company" say's it should be limited too. The #'s are there so they are covered if a owner exceds them and has a wreck. I have friends with 3500's pulling 20,000lbs all the time with no problems.

Thanks for the numbers. I was guessing with something like a B&W bed, tools, fuel and people. Heck, I may have been a little high on my figures. However, I do hope I got my point accross.
