I am considering installing one of the clamp-on rail type soft tonneau covers. Actually, I am not too keen on the idea, but people seem to be fascinated with how high my 2500 4x4 sits, and after looking all over the truck, they just have to look in the bed. The shorter the person, the more they want too look in the bed, standing on their tiptoes and leaning over. I fear they will scratch the bed with their clothing, buttons/buckles. If the bed was covered, it would discourage this.

Does anyone have any experience with removing one of these covers after a period of time? Will I end up with scratches in the bed rails, or a visible "line" in the paint finish where the rail once was?

I was thinking of putting down 2 or 3 layers of wide electrical tape followed by 2 layers of camper/cap tape?

roy - I had a soft, flush mount tonno made by Saddleman (LeBra brand name). Stay away from them. One of the cross members kept breaking! Now, in their defense, they did honor the warranty (several times, too!) and kept sending me parts. Half the time they sent the wrong part - recently changed design for the Ram - and I had to call back and get the correct one shipped (about 2 weeks by ground). They have a lifetime warranty on the rails, but they wouldn't give me a refund. I finally tossed the whole thing and am planning on getting a Pace-Edwards roll top tonno. I'll probably call them now and then and make them send out the rails!! Actually, that would take too much effort, so I probably won't. I ordered the cover through atuoenhance.com and he wouldn't give me a refund either, so I'd stay away from that site as well. Good luck!

P. S. My brother had the same cover (we ordered them together) for his gasser 2500 and his broke, too. Now both of my brothers have the roll-tops on their gassers and I'm planning on getting mine very soon. They LOVE them!

Roy, I have the Saber Tonneau by Extang. The aluminum frame is well made and has foam attached which protects the truck. Had mine on and off maybe 10X, no damage. I have the buttonless type. I don't recommend it. Get the snap-on button type. When its cold out, the cover shrinks and will not stay fastened in the rear corners. I recently put in screws to keep mine on. RonL

Have you considered a "Fold-a-Cover"? Its a 4 panel hard cover, made of 2 layers of aluminum with foam in between. Locks down, front and rear, folds once from cab back, or 3 times from talegate forward. Comes completely off with an adjustable wrench. Unlike my Lund visor on another thread, the fold-a cover is a great investment. I have alot more info if your interested. EMail me

I have the Fold-a-Cover on my truck too. I like the way it will fold out of the way so easy if you want to load something too tall. Another benefit is that is strong enuff to walk on!! Jumping up and down might not be a good idea but my 200 lb carcass is supported just fine walking around. The thing also has a lock.

There is one small problem with a tonneau cover like this and that is that you can drive off with the tail gate open REAL easy! I've done this a couple of times so I put a push button "dim wit" switch on the bed with a light on the dash that comes on if the key is on and the tail gate is down. Saves embarrassment!
