Cheap diesel gas in Colorado

Well due to gas prices I got rid of the Dodge and into a Z71 Tahoe. If anyone is interested I have a weather guard alum. tool box and the load floor for sale. Email me interested -- email address removed -- or call 720-939-9718

Well it looks like he sold 3 ctd's to support 1 gas gusler. Boy if money got that tight for me my Toyota Tacoma 2wd 24mpg would still go before my ctd at 20mpg

It has the E85 alternate fuel system in it. E85 at the station the other day when I saw it was 1. 59 a gallon. Thats at least . 50 cents less a gallon. Plus my wife that drives 4 mile to work each way will drive this (wouldn't drive the Ram) and I can drive her Honda during the week. I drive on average 2500-3000 miles a month it adds up when paying 2. 09 a gallon and only getting 14-15 mpg. The Tahoe should be the same on mpg but having the cheaper fuel alternative or having my wife drive it saves me money. I bought the Dodge to tow my boat to Lake Powell (get over the pass) and now that the water level is low I won't be going there anytime soon, so all I need to do is tow the boat from storage to the Marina and visa versa.

I guess I'm like a mushroom, always in the dark. What is E85 fuel? I've hauled petroleum products here in the Pacific N. W. for 22yrs now & have never herd of it. Is that like Bio Diesel or something?

E85 = 85% ETHANOL. I read an article on it 2 yrs ago and from what I remember you will probably get a mile or 2 better and at this point its cheaper, don't know what the price was before the other fuels went up. All of the new Tahoes come with it on the 5. 3 engine or at least the ones that I looked at. I am sure the Suburbans and trucks have this as well.

I guess we are behind the times here. The only Ethenol they blend out of our pipeline is about 10% for Arco stations which I don't deliver. All my deliveries go to Chevron & a couple of unbranded stations.

Actually, you will burn more E85 than gasoline. E85 has a BTU content of 105,545 BTU/gallon while gasoline has a BTU content of 111,400 BTU/gallon. Therefore, you will have to burn 5. 55% more E85 by volume to develop the same heat energy as gasoline.

For reference, the BTU content of diesel is 129,000 BTU/gallon. M85 (85% methanol) is only 65,350 BTU/gallon.

So what you are saying is that at only a 5. 55% difference this more than likely will not equate to much of a change regarding the mpg. If I do the math which tell if I am wrong, I would lose about 1 mpg based off of 15 mpg w/ unleaded fuel. If this being the case I am still in the good based on the fuel price.

Plus... that methanol, like propane is hard on engine parts. I know Bus mechanics that see 100,0000 to 200,000 miles on city buses with diesel engines in them and only about40,000 to 80,000 on methanol or propane. He states part of the problem is the lack of lubrication in the cylinders due to the fuel. Just my $. 02.

I don't know a lot about the 85% blend but I have been around a pickup (99 chevy with a 5. 3) built to run on 100% ethanol through a competition for SAE and its milage was horrible to say the least. Pulling basically an empty bumper trailer through Wyoming we got only 2-4 miles per gallon. Though we got our fuel for free from an ethanol plant through the state. The truck also went through a lot of fuel pumps. We ended up changing the ECU to run on normal fuel 3/4 the way through the trip.

Hope you have good luck with your new purchase

Funny how we make our decisions and priorities. Cell phones, cable TV, other misc costs like cigarettes, beer... . adding up to thousands a year. But unload a CTD for a gasser?

That sounds stupid... ... because of gas prices you got rid of your diesel?

There is no way you could come out ahead on that deal, what was the real reason for ditching the truck?

Tell us how you really feel y-knot!! :-laf

To each his own. Wife wants to sell her Durango and get a CTD. Of course, I fully support that idea other than the "bombing" competition.
