Cheap diesel gas in Colorado

Sled dog,

I probably still would have gotten rid of it. The reason for going to a Tahoe vs keeping the Dodge is as follows;

Gas prices - I drive a lot and spending 400-500 on fuel a month is nuts and its getting worse.

My wife will not drive the truck. She will however drive the Tahoe, much shorter and easier for her to drive, I will be driving her Honda to work and that will cost a lot less every month in fuel.

The main reason for me owning a diesel truck was to tow my boat from Denver to Lake Powell thru the mountains. Lake powell is off the vacation plans until the water gets back up. The Tahoe will get it from the storage to the lake.

And if I need a diesel truck my father has 1 that I can use.

So in all the gas prices made this plan what is. Now, had I been getting 17+mpg and the prices be where they were last spring 1. 43 a gallon, Lake Powell having water in the september time frame, I would still have it.

I have to go along with Milehigh. o. I live 22 miles from town and I have a 99 Tahoe with the 5. 7 and a 97 Dodge Cummins. The Dodge gets 19 the Tahoe gets 16. 5 so fuel costs are about the same(gas $2. 05 diesel $2. 28). But the Tahoe rides better is a lot quieter (wind-road-engine noise) and whole lot more comfortable. So you know which one goes to town the most. But if I'm going to Tow-Haul anything it's naturally the Dodge.

Everybody keeps talking about diesel being higher than gas, just last year I was paying $1. 78 for diesel when gas was up around $2. 28. It won't be long before they level out again. All the gassers around here get real lippy when gas drops lower than diesel, but hush up as soon as diesel dips lower than gas. I just keep my mouth shut and enjoy my good fuel mileage and that sweet smell of #2.

Well I just spent 71 bucks to fill my truck, but still not going to sell it. Might drive the T/C van now to work and let the wife drive (race) the truck. Me 110 miles roundtrip, her 10 miles RT. Red looks good right about now too!

let me guess when diesel drops down below the price of gas and the water level at the lake rises back up you'll be trading the Tahoe back in for a CTD?

The price of diesel is up because of the season. This is a recurring cycle that is more sensitive because of the growing demand on oil supplies.

They thing to do is drive less... . much less. Than the prices will fall.

Ndurbin,

More than likely I will. what will probably happen is I will keep the Tahoe and go back to and 2nd gen. See what happens, only time will tell.

SEmerson,

There is no way I would drive a vehicle for 200k miles. But you are right, a diesel will handle that kinda milage with ease.

The Equity loss of selling the 04 must have been tough. You could have purchased a beater honda ot toyota for the same cost as your equity loss. I live in littleton and have been looking for Alternative fuel at all the stations I've been too and have not seen any yet, where do you find yours?

I can see why your wife doesn't want to drive the truck though, they can't make a decent sized parking spot here in Denver. Though when my mom comes to town she has to drive my dodge because she can't jump inot my rockcrawler and My GF can't drive a stick quite yet.

Well due to gas prices I got rid of the Dodge and into a Z71 Tahoe. If anyone is interested I have a weather guard alum. tool box and the load floor for sale. Email me interested -- email address removed -- or call 720-939-9718

Guys, guys, guys...

Nothing like piling on  Milehigh wants to sell his tool box and load floor... I'm sure if that if he wanted financial counselling from the membership, he would have posted his request. He wants a different vehicle, get over it. :(

Whats up Brian. This Russ TJ's friend. I actually bought my 04. 5 for 33,500. 00 and got 32,000. 00 for it trading it in, Plus I got 10k off of the Tahoe, with the GM discount and my employee discount. So all in all I think I did ok. As for the beater car, I do have a 91 Jetta 16v that I was driving, but I blew it up (know how to fix vw's?). I am tired of fixing this thing and worrying when will be the next time it will break and leave me hanging. I will get a nother dodge soon, but will probably be a 2gen and just used for towing.

Well my wife has a grandcaravan that is a FFV (flexiable fuel vehicle). And we too have e85 in Minnesota.

But... ... ... yes e85 is cheaper, but right in the owners manual it says that you will loose at least 3-4 miles per gallon by using it. (and its a 6 popper I cant imagine the loss on your v8!!) It also makes you use some special motor oil to support the fuel change to E85.

We figured it out and it is actually cheaper to run good old ozone wrecking unleaded regardless of the 2. 00pr gal  my . 02

Sweet deal, the second gens went way down in price after the thirds came out. I'm not too sure on the Vdubs, I could prolly figure it out though. I wish you good luck with your new Chevy, they don't seem to have many problems if any. See you at one of TJ's next parties.

DBoyd,

Sounds like a nice truck. Before I spend anymore money I need to sell one of my boats. Its a 1993 BAYLINER 2755 Ciera cabin cruiser. Having 3 cars (1 dead) and 2 boats is enough for me right now.

So what you are saying is that at only a 5. 55% difference this more than likely will not equate to much of a change regarding the mpg. If I do the math which tell if I am wrong, I would lose about 1 mpg based off of 15 mpg w/ unleaded fuel. If this being the case I am still in the good based on the fuel price.

If I have learned one thing, it is that you can't count on future fuel prices.

When I bought my CTD eleven months ago, Diesel was MUCH cheaper than regular unleaded. Now, at most stations, diesel is higher than premium unleaded. WHY? I have no clue!!!
