Got fed up with below 10 mpg and did the swap. Took it in the shorts a bit, but will be worth it. Same color truck even. Can't wait to pick up the HO 6spd tomorrow. HEMI is a great motor, but I got a thirsty one and I missed the diesel torque.

Good to join Y'all

Thanks guys. Yeah, the HEMI mileage sucks, great motor, but don't plan on passing many gas stations. Anyone who tells you they are getting 15-16 MPG, ask them what they are smoking?!

Hell, I'd kill for 12 right now. Great to be a smoker once again.

What is it about Dodge gassers that make them get such horrible mileage?? I thought everyone just had a lead foot. I know several people with Durango's with the 4. 7's in them. They can't muster more than 12-13 in mixed driving. An employee has a QC 1500 4X2 with a 318. That thing will not get 15 running down the freeway all day if it had to.

We have an 01 Burb with a 5. 3 in it which gets 15-16 mixed and 18-20 on the freeway. I am not a GM fan in the least, the wife loves the thing, but the power and mileage is awful impressive. The always failing emergency brake... . 3X in 46K, rear pinion leaks, crappy power window motors, and a rearend with a ton of noise are not... . CJ

Ouch! I traded my 2001. 5 CTD 5 speed for a 6 speed after 6 months. It hurt, especially when I lost my job 3 weeks later.

I had a '98 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5. 2L V8 that I got 16 - 18 MPG with, and it towed my 21' TT pretty well.

My wife just got a 1500 QC 4wd with a Hemi. Hers gets a little better mileage. She gets 13-14 and that's with a 3:92 gear. I thought that was pretty respectable for her daily driving, but now that gas has hit $1. 55 here she is :{

All in all it's a nice truck, but I wouldn't be lured away from my CTD.

Got a 1998 1500 slt 318 that has never poped 17 mpg. Run it easy or hard its 15 to 16. 5 mpg. Its got a 3. 55 rear axel. Got a 1985 caprice classic 305 4 barrel with 2. 73 it gots week end week out 20 to 21. 5 its also a real slug,My diesel has never poped 18mpg and towing out west and back trailer empty(no horses)and loaded(3 grown qtr mares}got 11. 5

Hope this makes you guys feel better about the Dodge gassers. My Toyota Landcruiser gets 15-16 mpg combination. I think it is all about weight and moving parts AWD/4WD. The LC weighs 4800 lbs and is AWD with a straight 6, 212hp gas engine.

not to bust anyones bubble but my cummins is getting 12mpg computer says 14. 7. this is all 100% city with full throttle more than 10 times. this is the worst i will probably ever see. i have a problem i cant keep my foot out of it:D

I have a customer that I sold a Hemi 4x4 in Dec and he is getting 18mpg on the hwy running between 65-70 and 14 in the city, and he loves his Hemi. He used to have a V10. Also one of our finance managers has a 2500 4x4 Hemi and is getting 15 combo driving. Greg:p

Something else you need to know the 1/2 ton Hemi EPA rating in the 4x4 is 13 city 17 hwy. The 2500/3500 are not rated because the feds do not require any vehicle over 8000lbs gvw to be rated. Greg:p

My girlfriend's 02 1500 with the 4. 7 has never gotten better than 12or 13 and she drives like an old lady. It is a sweet looking truck though.

Sounds like the gasser mileage hasn't improved with the 3rd generations.

I had a '98 1500 QC with the 360 and 3. 54's. I always was dissappointed with the mileage. No matter what I did I could never get more than 10 mpg. Even worse when I pulled a trailer. That is why I smartened up and bought the '01 Cummins. Never regretted it. Although I kinda wish at times that I bought a 6 speed dually.

It just amazes me with all this hi-tech wizardry, direct-coil ignition, CAD designed motors, blah blah blah, and gassers for the most part have made no progress in mileage for years. My buddy is quite disappointed with his '01 GMC 2500 with the 6. 0L. His last tank was 10. 7. Best he has gotten highway is 14. It irks him he can't take it on a road trip without costing a fortune. Not only that, it has a serious case of piston slap, and pings bad. He can't get the dealer to do anything about it except they put a 100,000 mile engine warranty on for free since it's a known problem with the GM 6 liter gassers.

My brother's girlfriend drives a Kia Sportage. That tiny gutless wonder of a 4-banger can only do 21 on the highway at 65mph

Welcome!

Hey Turbojet. Sorry to hear about the mileage on the hemi. The truck looked nice sitting in Hooter's parking lot. If you're not busy Saturday, stop by the Charcoal Grill on 27th St. in Hales Corners around 1pm-4pm. The ford group is having a lunch get-together there, and we're invited too.

Dunno about the DC stuff, but I was sure impressed with fuel mileage with my '85 vette and '98 Camaro SS - both those small-block engines were FAST, yet with the Camaro SS, I was good for 13. 5 in the quarter mile - and still got 37 mpg between Reno Nev. and Winnemucca on one run, doing 80+ mph with the A/C on...

Depends on the engine/drivetrain and vehicle...

Vaughn ManKenzie,

That brings up another good point. My 360 gasser would not run on 87 without knocking and pinging like crazy. I had to run at least 90 before the knocking would diminsh. So on top of the meager 10 mpg I had to pay more for the higher octane. No onder why I bought a REAL truck!!:D
