quote from Russell :

"The 03 and up track bar will work with lifts up to 7 inches as long as the lift kit provides a drop down bracket to lower the upper end of the track bar to keep it parallel with the drag link.

If no drop down track bar mounting kit is used then it is reccomended to use the track bar with up to 3 inches of lift. More than 3 inches without dropping the upper mounting location causes bump steer. "

I'm wondering if the '03-'05 track bar will fit a '97, and what would be a reasonable price to pay for R&R the original bar with the new model.

Also, my Ram's closing in on 175,000 miles, but I'm not noticing a major difference in how it drives or any terrible steering wander. A friend told me (from his back under the truck) that my track bar was "shot," ("... with a 1/4" of play... ") and I really needed a new one.

I've read most of the threads, but we're staying in a rental house with a severely sloped driveway, no garage, and winter closing in fast here in Colorado. I'm not enthusiastic about doing the job myself.

Anybody with a feel for what the 1) Best track bar for my mountain driving/towing application would be (not going to raise the truck) and, 2) what sort of time/$ would be reasonable to expect if paying somebody else (dealer/qualified mechanic) to do this installation?

Thanks

I talked to Rip Rook the other day regarding this exact question. I have a 97 with 181,000 and have been told my trackbar is worn out but I haven't noticed any steering wander either. He said a with a "solid steel" adaptor bracket, you can use either the stock 03 Trackbar or adjustable 03 track bar. He also recommended that unless I was going to lift the truck to use the stock 03 track bar since the adjustable track bar cost $299 vice $225 for the stock track bar.

From everything I've read, I'd expect a dealer install to cost <$200 since the install times I've been seeing indicate that it should only take 30min - 1 hour to install. You probably should also plan on having the truck aligned following the install.

Other less expensive options would be the DT trackbar setup (http://dodgeram.info/tech/mods/trackbar/index.html) or the Thuren track bar (http://www.thurenfabrication.com/stocktb.html).

I don't have experience with any of them but intend to go with the Solid Steel solution.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply.

What parts, specifically, are you ordering, and what's the contact information for placing the order, if you don't mind?

I think I'm going to follow your lead.

I've had the front lifted with 2" shock tower bushings in order to accommodate my BFG 285/75/R16s. Will this present a problem?

Appreciate your help, McLaughlin

SRadke already provided some of this information

Contact info I used was:

I'd suggest you call the Tech Line and talk to Rip. He can answer any questions regarding your specific application and any concerns you might have.

Only name of the parts I could find were the:

TBK – Track Bar Conversion Kit

and the 03-05 Dodge track bar.

I'm also going to get a Dodge Steering Stabilizer later but that addresses a different problem than the track bar.

These items are also shown on: http://solidsteel.biz/index.htm
