Ok - all of a sudden I was having a hard start issue at times - I mean she would take maybe 6-7 revolutions to start - when normally starting is immediate. Now this was intermittent but appeared to be when the rig was stopped for some time - NOT early in the AM but say I drove somepleca and went in for 10 min - coming out a starting issue. Thinking I was maybe having a fuel filter issue (even though the FASS was 15#) and then I was talking to RIP at Source Automotive and he said that he thinks he had found the problem - the Fuel Pop Off valve on the VP44. I only have about 20,000 on my new 44 and didn't realize that these aren't changed with a rebuild. We took the old one off and it popped at less than 8 psi - when it should as I understand hold 14! This is as simple a change as there is - it virtually takes longer to get the wrench than changing this guy. RESULT - PROBLEM SOLVED!

I am having a similar problem. I just installed a vulcan big line kit, pressure is a constant 14 at idle and cruise with a low of 12 at wot. :) But I slowly started having a hard start situation. If I let the truck sit for say 10 minutes or longer it starts really hard. Similar to when I change my fuel filter  I've checked all lines and insured all are tight. I went through all fittings and installed new rubber washers and a new filter with still no luck. I may try the pop off valve  thanks

IF you're referring to the valve built into the banjo bolt at the return fuel exit right next to the fuel inlet, my II rebuilt that came several weeks ago came with what LOOKS like a new one...

So it's the banjo bolt just to the left of the fuel intake on the VP? I've been having a hard start for a long time and I've tried EVERYTHING! Where can you get a new one, or can you takeit to a diesel place to have them test it? Sorry about all the questions, but I'm desperate to get this fixed! Thanks

Yes, Brady at Industrail Injection sends that new with every VP that goes out, cuz if that is bad, then your returing all the fuel and not lubing the pump. I would find his number, or call information, he is in salt lake city utah. Im sure he would be happy to next day air you one. Hope it fixes your problem.

I periodically get hard starts too. Usually when it is a hard start I notice my initial fuel press when I turn on the key is 3 to 5 psi. On starts that my initial press. is about 8-10psi it starts right away. I get 15-16 psi once it idles & down the road. WOT 14psi.

Can you tell me what your initial fuel press is when you first turn on the key?
