Well, actually the dealer solved it when I took the truck in for a broken A/C. I didn't really think they would fix the noise problem, but for once I was pleasantly surprised.

I never bothered posting about the noise, cause I usually think they are too hard to chase, and with all of the tubes and wires running through my firewall I figured it was something I had done to cause it.

The noise was strange, not a rattle or a real sqeak, but kind of a muffled chirp with every irregularity in the road. My best description is that it sounded like a bunch of seals (the shiny black sea critter kind of seals) barking from far away. I've heard this coming from seal rock off the coast by my house.

The mechanic at the dealer recognized it and adjusted the shifter linkage in the steering column, and voila, no more seals !

Don't know if this has been posted before, but it might help someone.

This is funny. I have the same dang noise but never posted becuase I figured it would never be found. So it's shifter linkage in the steering column? Any more insight would be helpful.

Thanks,

Ken

Ken,

I wish I knew more to tell you, but that's the only description that I got was a 'shift linkage adjustment in the steering column'. It did sound like the mechanic knew exactly what it was when he heard it, so it may not be that uncommon.
