I lost a couple of headlight switches, then added a thirty amp toggle switch just for running lights. they went out again. This time I ran a ten guage wire from the battery to a fuse to the toggle switch. The from the switched side of the switch I cam back through the firewall and connected to the plug side of the bulkhead connector to terminal 26. No problems yet, but it sure is a mighty small wire handling all the running lights. Next I'm running a seperate wire and toggle switch for trailer running lights.

Dodge wired in the front marker lights ALONG with another setup for the rear marker lights. I placed a 20 amp fusible link to the rear marker lamp wire bypasing the switch altogether. I added a stock GM relay and it works just great. Nice Not to have the switch get hot. Mike

jsimpson,
To reduce the amount of amps running through your switch, why not mount a relay (close to the battery) and use the switch to open or close the relay? The relay can then power the lights directly from the battery. I don't know why you would want to run a 10 guage power wire through your firewall to a switch, and then back again through the firewall to power the lights. Most auto parts stores sell these relays cheap - less than five bucks.
