I've, posted this in the 2nd gen engine and transmission also.

I've got a 47re in my '99 3500 that has a bit of a problem. If I take off in D it starts in 2nd gear and upshifts early to 3rd, no lock up and no od. If I manually select L it will take off in 1st and upshift to 2nd when I move the lever to 2nd and on to 3rd when I move the lever to D. If I pull the lever back to 2nd it will shift down to 2nd but it will not go back to 1st if I manually select L. I have to go to N and let it sit there for a little bit before I can manually select L and actually get 1st gear. I checked gov. pressure and it pegs my 0-30 psi gauge with no wheel speed. I tried gov. pressure check with C2 unplugged from the PCM with the same results. Can someone give me a clue as to what is going on.

On my truck with a DTT trans there is a resister installed to fool the computer. If it goes out, 2nd gear starts will happen. If you have your paper work it discusses it in further detail.

Rather than a resistor I have a box that is adjustable and the voltage is right where it is supposed to be.

I wonder why the difference of your box and the resistor on my 03?

Well I did some more reading and trouble shooting and it looks like I eigther have a bad harness between the PCM and the PDC or the PCM has failed. The transmission control relay is turned on by the PCM and it wasn't turning on so I removed the relay and replaced it with a jumper and now everything is back to normal.
