As my Grand dad used to say!! I did the oil change today and used the ziplock on the filter. "Slicker'n snot" is what he woulda also said.

I'm surprised no one has marketed them as a Cummins tool!!

Hey, thanks for the idea!

Even cheaper is an empty plastic cereal bag. Contains the oil well, doesn't snag easily, and easily contains the fitler.

I use two of the plastic grocery bags one inside the other, that way if it snags the other one should save the day. I have found that the flexibility of the grocery bags makes it easier getting around the other plumbing and they are free. i use those things almost as much as duct tape for things like, poopy baby diaper disposal (scent blocker), picking up dog turds in the neighbors yard that my dog put there.

Maybe I'm doin it wrong... but I tried the ziplock bag trick on my first few changes. But after draining it... while leaving the oil fill cap and filter in place... I dont lose a drop anyway. The oil level is usually about 1/2" below the top of the filter so none leaks out when it comes off. I just make sure to hold it straight up when pulling it out of the engine bay. Wonder if it siphons out a little when draining?

Mine used to siphon down to about 1/2 full ever time. The past 3 changes or so it was full. Now I see the need for the plastic bag. This possibly started when I changed to the stratapore filter. I wonder why the change? Sure can make a mess.
