I am thinking of putting together a project truck together specifically for the drag strip. I don't know what to go with, a 12v or a 24v. I have read through past post and found pros and cons on both. I know a lot of people like the 12v but when I see what some of the top dogs have, there 24v's MOST of the time. I plan on doing an all out engine build (it might take me some time though but thats alright).



And my other concern is whether to get a 4x4 or 2x4. I know the 4x4 gets better traction but it seems like it would keep on braking. I just want to do it right and get all I can out of the engine. Thanks for the input.

In other words, if you were going to build up a truck which one would you use and why. (example: 12v, 2wd because ... ..... )

12 Valver. No electronics to deal with.



If you notice the fastest diesels out there ar all running either a 12 valve motor or a 24 valve motor with a P7100 pump.

2wd vs 4wd can be addressed a bit more. If you are willing to improve traction with traction bars, spool/locker, tub the bed to get some meatier slicks... If this is primarily a track vehicle I would think that 2wd with suspension mods would be lighter and less prone to breakage... just my $0. 02

Is it a difficult task hooking a P7100 pump on a 24 valve truck with all the wiring? And another question I had is can a person put a 24v head on a 12v engine? Does it need to be changed in anyway to fit?

Putting a 24 valve head on a 12 valve involves changing the pistons, and using the right head gasket, if you are going to go this far to build a motor , then you should put a cam in , with the 24 valve lifters , the lines fro the p pump are available several places, as far as a chassis , if you want a pro street type truck , its tubs and big tires on the back, this makes it in to a killer street machine , but forget towing . I would start with a half ton, and 4 link and tub it

I am thinking about a 12v with either a 2wd or 4wd. Which everone I can get a good deal on. The 12v seems a little easier to mess with than the 24v and its cheaper to work on. Or my other option is switching the truck I have now into an auto and go with it. But for right now it is my daily driver. Do you know of any people around this area with a truck for sale.
