Put a ZF-6 in my 95

So what's the ideal cruise RPM/gear ratio?

This was a 6. 2 powered Sub originally that I bought from a wrecking yard. Then I robbed all the good parts off of my 83 diesel one ton. I originally installed a custom low compression 300 hp 6. 5 that I built. Then one day while on a trip to go elk hunting I was pulling a hard hill towing an 8000 pound travel trailer and a buddy passed me with his stock 97 cummins towing a gooseneck with 4 horses in it (about same weight) Two months later and a new loan from the bank and he doesn't stand a chance. If I did it again I would be a little more patient and try to buy my parts at better deals.

Just an update on my conversion. 40,000 miles on the clock and no problems since the last output shaft failure at about 15,000. Ave fuel mileage is about 15 with highs around 18 and lows of 9 while towing at 75+ :D :D . I have purchased a 22 inch flexolite class 5 hd truck fan for towing in the summer and run the 19 inch flex fan in the winter. Towing in the summer up steep mountain passes is a challenge to keep the water temp within reason, but it is better with the larger fan, at the expense of a few ponies. The TST powermax 3 is awesome but levels 7 to 9 are insane for egt's. The centerforce clutch is holding up excellent and has never failed me. I am running a pusher pump in addition to the stock lift pump and have had to replace th pusher once. All in all I am very happy with this conversion. All of my frame re-engineering seems to be working well, no cracks. :D :D :D

Hey Dave, glad to hear that the SubUmmins is working good for you. I also have a hard time keeping the cooling system in check while towing, but it is livable. Sounds like you need to change to turbo (S) to keep the EGT in control.

Take it easy

How much different is the conversion if using a 12v from a '94 than 24v from a 2001? Reason I am asking is because my '91 V3500 is the same body as your burban up front, and we both have 4x4's. I may have some questions as time goes on if you dont mind. I am gonna start to put a 12v in mine. It may be a bit different since you had a diesel to begin with, and I had a injected 454.

Hmmmm.

Nice job though! I cant wait to get started!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dave We are planning to put a 03 motor into a 84 C-30 160" WB std cab or a 85

K-30. The 84 C-30 is the nicer of the two. Both are gas engines with 4 speeds. We have an 03 motor and 03 Dodge 4500 Trans- 2 WD. Wondering what you think? Will we have pan clearance or height problems? Fred

Fred,

In a 4x4 there shouldn't be any problems, 2wd however I'm not sure. A lift kit on a 4x4 makes clearances easier. Get a dodge radiator and intercooler, cut off the inlet and outlet on the intercooler and swap them side to side, this will give clearance to clear the main structural supports on the radiator support. Plan on removing front crossmembers and making new ones. Good luck!

4. 10's in the diffs.

New update, the price of fuel :{ :{ :{ so I have started blending WVO with my diesel. Up to about 30% and runs great and exhaust smells yummy!

Wvo

My brother has a 1987 Chevy pickup that he converted. He is running pure WVO. The smell is awesome. He is says he is starting to want the diesel smell back but he likes the "free" part of the veggie oil. I tried it in mine and I don't know if my lift pump is week or what, but it wouldn't run. It did run decent on about 50% but runs a little better with none.

I am currently running about 40-50% WVO and life is good except for the occasional plugging of fuel filters. It seems that animal fats plug the paper. I am experimenting with washing the fuel filter with detergent to clean it and then re-use it. The last filter was only on for a week, and the paper was covered with a thin slimmy film. :--)
