When we had to re-register for the TDR at the last software upgrade, I used a new hotmail address that I had created a couple of months ago. When I created the new hotmail account, I did not disclose the address to anyone or use it for any purpose except for testing. For two months I did not receive any junk mail to this account. After re-registering and supplying the new e-mail address, I started receiving junk mail within 1 week. I have still not used the account for any purpose other than the TDR. I can't even figure out how they are getting the address as I can't even see it when I look at my profile. Any comments from Admin?

I have created a hotmail account that I've never used anywhere. It gets junk mail. The account that I used to register with TDR never gets any (knock wood). Go figure.

Only TDR members have access to them...

Only activated TDR members have access to them on the boards. If an unactivated user tries to access an email address, it asks them to log it. In the old system, they were wide open to the public. Its just a coincidence that you're getting hit now as the new system is much better than the old when it comes to security.

Glad to see you have to be activated member to see e-mail addresses. Thanks.

I've been on for a year and half no junk mail (from businesses) some from Dodge/Diesel owners. :)

Bad press....

Cookies don't give out that sort of information. 99. 9999% of cookies are session ids or date/time stamps, including TDR.

I think Hotmail may be selling lists, or someone is getting e-mails from Hotmail. I created a Hotmail account as well and never gave it out, but I still get junk mail on that account.

I haven't received any junk mail on the account I have registered here... . but where's a big piece of wood to knock on just in case. ;)

I think it is just Hotmail selling the lists. I had an email at Hotmail which received junk mail immediatley after I signed up. I quit using it after a week. My address at GTE(Verizon) never receives any junk mail. I have a second at Excite.com and another at Yahoo which never get any unsolicted mail. Looks like ole Bill hands out the hotmail addresses to me.

I remember seeing something a while back (elsewhere) that hotmail address can be found out by doing a person search on the internet. There was a way to mass collect these email addresses.

Thanks Bill Gates!
