I have a buddy that is wanting to know some details on the water methanol system,exactly what all does it do,does it help youre egts,any more power,why do some guys run it,is it fairly expensive???

Meth= Goodstuff

The methenol+water combo does many things for your HP diesel engine. The first is that it aids in cooling the charge air. Your turbo compresses the intake air and that makes it hotter, hot air is less dense then cool air, cool air carries more oxygen than hot air. More oxygen=more diesel burned=more power. The Methenol is itself a oxygenate, that is it carries extra oxygen atoms, so when it is added into the intake air the diesel has just that much more oxygen to burn. The water methenol mix also flashes to steam in the intake and combustion chamber. This faze change drops temperature dirastically.

I have witnessed a 40 hp gain at the rear wheels (Dodge Cummins) on the dyno just by splashing windshield washer fluid on the air filter!!

I drilled the head into the intake ports on my 466ci pulling tractor and installed 6 Enderle fuel nozzles with . 016 orfaces. I pump with a 220psi 12V pump that is switched on (at 25psi) with a Hobbs switch on the manifold. In a 18 to 20second run it uses about 1/2 gallon of 20degree windshield washer fluid. THERE IS LOTS OF POWER IN THIS SETUP!!

I am doing much reading on this as well. I have been experiencing creeping egt's when getting on my truck. Now I did just discover that I had a 03-04 Edge on my just found out 04. 5. So after I swap in the ats manifold and SPS62 turbo then I will decide wheather i will need or want it at that point. I have seen prices ranging from 299. 00 to 600. 00 for an almost drop in kit. Just do a general search on the board and the net for water/meth injection and you will turn up some good reading material.

I have been seriously thinking about purchasing something or another

Water injection can be very inexpensive=winshield washer line rerouted into the face of the charger. Or very complex and expensive=Hobbs switch high pressure pump,port injectors etc.

if i purchased a water methenol system could I run windshield washer fluid through it,or what do I need to run

The snow stage 3 on a 12 valve works wonders. Im sure it would be the same on a 3G. Cooler egt's by a few hundred and more power to boot!

Simple Windshield washer fluid seems to work very well. The 20degree stuff seems to be a very good mix. If you run the -30 or lower, the Methenol content seems to be higher than ideal and actually adds EGT's instead of subtracting.

just run strait water it is the safest but i melted my pistons on my 06 and didn't really like it. for towing purposes it use way to much fluid 1 gallon would last me about a 1/8 tank. you need a big storage container and i thought it was more like a mild shot of nos. i wouldn't recommend it for a truck but there are guys who love it. just my to cents worth. by the way i really new nothing about it when i put it on and the guy that installed it was a idiot. i think it was dumping in way to much and caused my engine to sputter and backfire. right after i used the system within a hundred miles i got a knocking sound and it was 3 burnt piston.

I have a stage 2 snow kit and absolutely love it. Their customer service is great... i wouldn't consider buying from anyone else. the power difference on mine is VERY noticeable, after it was tuned correctly.

Something is definitely wrong here. :rolleyes:

It will not "melt pistons" if it is done right. Windshield washer fluid is not a proper mix, 50/50 is about perfect.

The system I am beta testing will blow the others out of the water as far as adjustability goes.

I have it on my truck and like it quite well however as an added safety precaution I would reccomend going with some head studs. I blew a head gasket with mine but no problems since the addition of the ARP's. Real nice especially when it is really hot and you are climbing grades towing heavy.

In my experiance 50/50 is more Methenol than ideal when you are more than 400hp. However that does depend on fueling levels and exesting EGT's and boost pressure. I used to run pure Meth and it worked very well=lots of HP and lowered EGT's. However as I modded the injection pump and injectors the EGT's went wild and I melted pistons. Now I use a -20 Washer fluid (about 20 percent Meth) and everything has been very good. This is not rocket science however if you do not do it right there will be carnage.
