Over the past 2 days, I have been experiencing a strange binding feeling somewhere in the drivetrain after the truck has been sitting for a few hours. It starts up just fine as usual, clutch travel and engagement is good, take the parking brake off and put it in 1st (or reverse) to go, the clutch is engaging causing the truck to want to move, but it is almost as if the parking brake never released, and is holding the truck in place. I, however, don't think that the p-brake is the problem, I am pretty sure it is released. If I give it a little more power and let the clutch out to attempt to force it to move, somthing pops (feels gear related) and then all is back to normal. The transmission shifts normal, no engine-related oddities, so I am pretty convinced it is located somewhere from the t-case back.

This has happened 3 times in the past 2 days, each time after it has sat for a few hours. Twice it was in 4x4 when I started, but it happened just the same with the front end unlocked as well.

Has anybody experienced anything similar to this, ideas maybe? Or does annyone have any heads-ups for me first? I don't have the equipment/tools/space to work on it myself here in Steamboat, so I will be bringing it to a guy I know. TIA

It happened on my car one time after I had been in the snow the day before. It was the brake shoes on the rear. Try not putting on your parking brake next time and see what happens.

chuck. :)

ditto here

Past week have had the same EXACT symptoms only on two of the 5 days. Only commonalities were:

1. Sub-freezing temps

2. Had set parking brake in parking lot

All times consisted of several hours in parking lot (work). It wasn't happy starting either... ...

So if nothing else, I'd second the assessment of the brakes not wanting to give up their hold.

I deal with this symptom at least once a week My five star says its the rear brakes not to worry so they say It can be iratting at times. good luck Ps Mine has done this since I owned it.

I'm with Chuck. It's happened to me numerous times and on different vehicles. Brake shoes/drums pick up moisture from the road and then freezes the shoes to the drum. Had my old Chevy froze up so bad once, I nearly didn't have enough power to break it loose! I try to avoid using the parking brake under wet and freezing conditions.

Well, it seems to be the brake afterall... I went a couple nights in a row without using it, and movement in the morning was normal. The odd thing is, this just happened for the first time last week, and I have been living in sub-freezing temperatures for a long time. Thanks for all the help guys
