When backing or going forward with the steering wheel turned in either direction you get this grabbing from the rear of the truck. I was sure that something had come loose in the wheel(s). Pull both everything fine. No sign of something rubbing. Just came back from a 10 mile trip at 60 mph. The rear end did not seem to be hot at all.

Now this is at very slow speed, under 10 mph. It is kinda hard to do with this t/c, since it will idle at 12 mph. Also pulled the front wheels and there does not seem to be any problem. Checked all lug nuts on front . It does not make a noise going down the road. Just when you are turning at a slow speed, like turning around in the drive. It just started it, and all at once.

Please respond if you have ANY idea. The only thing that has been done is the rear end lube was changed. 8 qts of AMSOIL 75/140:rolleyes: Thanks for your help

GLASMITHS,

It sounds like you need to add some friction modifier to the gear lube. Does it feel like there is a rumble coming from somewhere? I just changed the rear end fluid to Amsoil 75-W90. I was getting some minor chatter too. added 2oz friction modifier. It cleaned it

right up.

The best stuff to use is the additive from the Dodge dealer. I just got a 4oz bottle for $6. 63.

Bill,

I have some of this, and may go ahead and put it in, however, this ain't a chatter, I mean the whol truck shakes like a brake shoe is hung up , broken or something.

This happened once before:eek:  , in 1966, and it was a wheel ready to come off.  It is that bad. Straighten the wheel up and everything is fine:confused:

I think Bill is right about the friction modifier. I changed my rear lube to Royal Purple and had the same problem. Both RP and Amsoil both say no modifier needed and some guys have not needed it, but there are some of us that had a bad chatter and had to put it in. Mine was soon after I had the rear end rebuilt. The rebuild also included new clutch pack for the limited slip. All was fine with conventional lube for about 2000 miles. I wanted to lap the gears in before going to synthetic. I put in the RP and immediatley had chatter. put in a bottle of the Mopar aditive and it smoothed right up.

Hope this all your problem turns out to be!

It would be better to delete this thread. However, after much thought and nagging feeling about the steering, I checked the steering fluid, LOW, but not THAT low. So decided to change the fluid. Presto, solved my problem. I was relying on someone else as to where the binding was coming from. Although the WIFE did say that it was coming from the left front. I'm in big trouble now. She will probably want to drive it.

The old fluid looked like Louisiana coffee, very dark. I'll drive it for a week and change it again. Something else to service.

Bill: Will the extra friction additive mess up the LSD? 4oz in 8 qts shouldn't hurt it? Thanks for the reply.

george

Glad you found the problem GLASMITHS. I would have never thought it would be the PS pump.

I wouldn't worry about the extra LSD in the lube. I once had to add 3 bottles on top of Redline's Lube. It was a GL-6 too. Shouldn't have to add any. My teeth chattered is was so bad. The Limited-Slip Diff still works fine today.

Good Luck.
