I do all my of own servicing on all vehicles I own, including my '04. 5. While putting new engine oil in, I put the oil fill cap up near the junction box. When I moved away fron the fender, I brushed the cap and it fell. I thought it went down the fender apron, and lodged itself on the steering linkage or something since I didn't hear it hit the ground. I went looking all over the area and usually I find things like this pretty quickly, but not this time.

I went and got the flashlight and broadened my search. Sure enough, I found a real nice hiding place! On the left front, there is a tall bracket that serves as the washer resivoir mount. This bracket stands off the fender/ rad support and makes a tall, deep well, just big enough for the oil cap to go down with little room for anything else. I had to make a hook out of a brazing rod to get around it and pull the cap up. It cost me a good 10 minutes.

Just wanted to let you Guys know.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought I was the only one that did the same thing? I was putting my stock air box back in and had sat the bolts for the thing on the fender. My arm moved and knocked one of them down. I was confused when I didn't hear the sound of a bolt hit the ground. I searched all over when I discovered this IMO very very poor oversight in the construction or design of our trucks. They could have spent less than 75 cents a truck and made some very cheap plastic cover to go over this area. I feel you're pain brother.

There isn't any place in the Third Generation engine bay to put stuff like the oil filler cap where it is secure. I got the tray from Geno's that fits over the AC condensor and put the cap there. The tray can also can hold wrenches, a big help when working there.
