Hello all,
Like I said in an earlier post I went from a 02 to an 18. I now have a little over 7,00 miles on it. After a short run yesterday 5-6 miles when I got home and shut the truck down and got out I could smell burnt rubber. Any ideas?

Thanks
Craig

For the first say 1000 regen cycles I had a burning rubber odor it’s a bit concerning at first. Then I just parked it a few extra feet from the house an made sure the insurance was paid up... Oh most importantly have some hotdogs and marshmallows on hand.. It’s a shame to waste a good fire.. lol

Does it notify you when doing a regen?

As mentioned not for normal regen.

It’s one of the reasons I got a CTS2. It shows when I am in regen and that way I don’t shut it down in the shop during a regen.

What is the definition of a short run? 2mi, 5 mi, 10mi??

To me it’s anything where it doesn’t get to operating temp for at least a couple miles.

To be fair, this isn’t good for any engine but it’s also not great for the emissions equipment on newer diesels. They don’t get hot enough to do any passive cleaning and the engine doesn’t get hot enough to evaporate water in the oil, or to burn clean.

yeah I agree with that.. I have a 12 mile commute to the shop, winter is the only time when its hard to get it up to temp in that drive. As far as regens go, I am not a fan of additional hardware in vehicles as screens, etc... is there any other earthly way to know when a regen is in process that doesn't require a add on device? As I have said before, most times I check the DPF gauge its zero so one doesn't expect it to suddenly go into regen, but have caught it in a regen before during shutdown. I wish FCA wouldve but a indicator or override the EVIC when its doing it..

On my 2019: when it goes into regen the DPR gauge will Say "Regen is in progress" till it is complete then will say Regen completed. Or something to that effect.

Every 24 hours of engine run time. Note when it says regen in progress and anticipate the next one.

Yeah... sorry guys not trying to make a mountain out of a molehill here.... Like the CP4 thing.... I am just ignoring it and driving it w/o any worries, that's why I have a warranty and keep current on my maintenance. I like to be proactive when I can though hence the myriad of questions since my last truck didnt care what I did, well not really
