Was removing my sinencer ring today... and it looks like the turbo had water in it at one time... what do you think??? Should I put the ring back in and take it back to the dealer??? Or just try to clean it up. Truck is only a day old...

I took my silencer ring out yesterday to see what all the hoopla was about. It came out real easy considering the retainer was half way falling out anyhow. Took a matter of 3 seconds to remove. Mine was clean though, no rust to speak of. I'd take it back in and see what the dealer says.

Well I was going to tell them that I was inspecting the air filter and took the whole pipe off... . Then I noticed upon inspection of the turbo... that it was covered with corosion. I will tell them that it looked like it had been full of water. Then ask them what they want to do about it. What do you think???

Don't think they would like me telling them that I was removing the silencer ring.

Was there rust on the outside of the ring where you can see it when it was installed? If so, I'd tell the dealer you had concerns and removed the ring for inspection purposes. That shouldn't void any warranty.

No offense guys, but you are dealer gun shy. Go in there and tell the dealer you were giving your truck a good once over, and you found out it was screwed up and you want it fixed. You did not cause the rust and you didn't break anything, just go tell them to inspect it and fix the problem. I understand about "authorized service" and "regular maintance" to maintain your warranty, but my goodness. I just don't see how they could say anything to you except, "Damn sir, that ring looks like crap and should not be rusty, don't know what could cause that but we will be glad to look at it. " If they ask what you were doing looking at the ring, tell them you inspecting YOUR new $40,000 piece of property, to make sure that THEY didn't try to pass a lemon off on you and you want it fixed. You didn't cause the rust damage!... If they give you any lip, just leave 'cause you don't want that blood suckin', cry baby service representative having his 18 year old service tech lookin' at your truck anyway. ;) ;)

Yes there was visable rust on the outside of the ring. I have reinstalled the ring as it was before, without removing the rust. I am going in to the dealer in the morning to have them take a look.

Hey Buddy,

Have you gotten that little rust problem taken care of?

I sure hope the dealer does right by you!

A guy should not spend the kind of money it takes to buy that truck only to find the internals rusted out! I would be very curious about what the rest of that engine looks like!!!

Don't let them brush you off one thing I have learned about the dealer is the ONLY way to get what you want is to call there bluff!!

The bigger the scene you cause the faster they take care of you!!

The last thing they want is an irate customer running people off!!!

Good luck let me know what happens.

PS Will you be at the Oregon pulls?

Hope to see you there!

One thing I learned from a guy right before I lemon lawed a truck was that to get your problems solved you have to make a scene right up to the point where they are going to call the local police (The guy I learned this from was the local police). I had to do the same thing with the zone rep when they were buying my truck back. In the end I got more out of that truck than I paid for it and the service manager I was dealing with had to find a new job. It's your truck you paid for it and you have a warranty that says they need to fix it, with that said I would doubt they will do anything other than clean up the ring and put it back on but at least it will be documented incase something bigger happens down the road.

I totally disagree that you have to make a scene. And I seriously doubt you got any more for your truck than was due under the New York lemon law. The situations I recall concerning lemon law all went much better for the customer when they were calm and organized. The law is written for your protection, and the manufacturer is OBLIGATED to provide the remedy stated in the law, as long as YOU do your part to get the repairs documented. In California there are severe penalties for the manufacturers if they do not adhere to the law. And I took a quick look at your states lemon law, and no where did it say you had to be an

a-----e to get your vehicle repurchased.

It's people like you that make the businessplace such a pain these days. Sometimes we all get treated poorly because the person in front of us was a guy like you.

Let me restate that, if you can't get satisfaction by going in and politely asking then you have to do as my post says, with that said:

I owned that truck 1 year 1 month and 1 day and it was in the shop 45 of those days on 11 different occasions, it was the first new truck that I owned and at first I was always polite and calm but that was getting me no where and the zone rep just kept saying bring it in we'll fix it right, I told them they tried that 11 other times and there was no way they were getting another chance. On the other hand the letter to the arbitration board was very polite and full of documentation, as I remember it was 10 pages long listing every visit I made to the dealership and every item detailed. The truck never went to full arbitration because I got my way and they gave a $4,000 certificate to use towards the new truck after I traded in my old one. I paid $16,000 for the old one and got $14,000 on trade so I ended up with $18,000 for the old one as far as I can tell that is more than I paid. Honestly by the time it got to that point there wasn't much wrong with the truck other than the dealer not listening to the customer and unwillingness to address my problems. It's not so much of being an A**hole as it is letting them know that they can't walk on you. It's not people like me that make business places such a pain these days, it is the big companies trying to get away with what they can and ripping off customers.

It's HIS truck. They should have no reason to question why he's into the truck he owns. He's not going past any tamper-resistant or tag-wired screws.

Ok. So far so good. I have an appointment to do a show and tell with the diesel tech on Wednesday. He wants me to show him exactly where the problem is... and they will go from there. The service manager said that he had never heard of such a thing.

On the previous posts... I am always nice, and I have a lot of patience. However the second they tell me that I have no idea what I am talking about or start ignoring me... that all goes out the window.

Best of luck!

I just hope they don't pull that "Everything is with in specs. stuff... What about the junk that flew into the turbo BEFORE you found out about it????

Corey

I was a service manager for an avionics company. If someone called up and got really nasty rite of the mark he'd have a heck of a time getting a good deal from us. If on the other hand someone called up and was very pleasent I would bend over backwards to please them even if our warranty didn't cover it. You just want to treat people like that good.

Try playing the nice guy first and then you can always fall back on being tough.

I'm with Prairie Dog. I usually call up, and say... I've got a little problem, and I hope you can help me... I... .

Works great most of the time.

Good news! They are going to replace the turbo! Took it in today and the diesel tech said... hmmm... . that's not right. I will put the paperwork in to get a new one. Then I asked him if they would mind drilling and taping the exhaust manafold while the turbo was off for my EGT probe... he says sure no problem... . Just give me the hardware and I will take care of it.

Here's the kicker... as I was backing the truck out of the shop, he asks me how I like this one compaired to my 97. I said my 97 had a little more get up and go, but this one is much better on everything else. Without missing a beat he starts telling me that I should go get one of the boxes for it! That dodge de-tunes these things so much... . that they have WAY more potential... and that I would really like it after the upgrade. I told him that I would think about it... . :D
