I was installing a Prodigy brake controller today and was under the dash (ouch) tying into the factory tow package wiring and found a problem around the emergency brake release rod.
There is a flat, braided wiring loom that routes around the emergency brake mechanism and I’m guessing from the configuration probably goes up the driver side pillar. Could be wiring for overhead console (just a guess, Chiltons schematics not much help). This loom, which appears to be in the factory position, was close enough to the attachment point where the emergency brake release rod attaches to the release mechanism that over time had been cut
(by wear from the rod and attached clip).
Wear was severe enough to have cut the loom and begun scarring the enclosed wiring insulation. It’s an easy fix with a couple of wire ties! This was on a 99 3500 quad and I would bet at least some others are similar. Just something you might want to check.
