Well the weathers warm again and the problums back , sometimes it will not start , at first I thought it seemed like it was loseing prime becouse after a few tries it would start , then it seemed electrical becouse of cycling the key , looked under the hood [ truck was new to me a few months ago ] and saw that the shutoff solinoid was new , so that is not the problum [ it may be upstream ] like relay for solinoid ? The truck came from a dealer , who got it from a dealer auction , the other problum it had was going out of O. D. and cruse , they had replaced the Tq. Conv. and that did'nt fix it either. I found that glueing a washer to the brake switch fixed the O. D. & T. Q. , so it seems the dealer was not finding the source of the problums , to the tune of 500. 00 in parts or so . I'm still looking to solve the random no start [ which relay , wires ? thanks.

first inspect/replace the rubber lines between the frame and the engine... they'll get old/brittle and allow air to leak IN before the lift pump.

you can always just yank the fuel solenoid and start/drive it w/ the lever up and see if the problem persists... if it doesn't, you know it has something to do w/ the solenoid or relays

Leaking rubber return lines behind the fuel filter. Did it to me on my 96, paticularly if I parked it nose high. Took almost a minute of cranking at times.

What do yo mean by wouldn't start

When you tried to start the truck, did the starter engage or did you cycle the key and then it engaged? Starter Solenoid contacts? Ken Irwin

If it cranks, will it start if you give it a little pedal? If it will then all that is wrong it a low idle setting.

I left out the way I get it started, I go under the hood and lift the linkage at the solinoid and it starts just fine. This is very random except for more often in warmer weather above 60f .

The most likely thing that causes that is the fuel solenoid relay. It's the big one on the firewall above the engine and toward the master cylinder. A $6 Radio Shack 30 amp automotive will fix it. It's better to go to an electronics store and get a 70 amp relay. Sometimes the fuel solenoid linkage gets cruded up and can cause that.
