For the rest of my life, wherever I go, I will never purchase another Sony product.

I bought a PS3 back in February so that I could watch Blu-ray discs, my daughter can play older PS2 games for kids, and my wife can have Netflix.

Well, you can't play PS2 games on the PS3 - they're not backward compatible.

And now the "Playstation Network" doesn't work, so I can't use the Netflix membership I just signed up for today.

So, in effect, I own a $300 Blu-ray player.

I understand Sony's network was hacked (from what I've read, it's their own poor management that enabled the hack), but this piece of junk has been nothing but a $300 source of frustration from day 1. It was hacked in APRIL. April! It's now late May, and they still haven't fixed it? And why does the Playstation Network have anything to do with my Netflix account!? This is infuriating.

Please, if you're considering buying one of these, think very carefully before parting with your hard-earned money.

Ryan,
I understand your frustration. It did take a while for the network to come back up, but it's up today (at least in my area). Also, I know you've already spent the money on one, but if you find one of the older PS3's, they are backwards compatible. I don't know why they changed it, but they did.

Yes, it's back up today. But it's been down over a month. If I had signed up for Netflix on the first day of the outage, I'd have wasted the 1 free trial month.

I sincerely hope Sony suffers a significant loss of sales and market share as a result of this incident.

Is that bad of me?

Ryan,

We have a PS3 and Netflix. It has been working since Day 1 of the hack and before. Maybe it is different in your area, but we have not seen any Netflix interuption. I guess we have one of the older ones that still works with many PS2 games. Sorry to hear of your troubles

Your netflix could have worked - when it asked for your sign in you just needed to cancel that and then netflix would have come up. They haven't done a very good job of explaining the PS2 compatibility with the newer models. The first models were PS2 compatible and I think they removed it due to lack of use. They have been getting the network back up since yesterday. Dealing with hacking issues can be difficult. I'd rather see them take the time to get it right once they discovered the issue instead of putting it back up too soon. I have seen some mention of them giving away some free stuff to current owners to help make up for it but I haven't seen it in concrete what they are offering.

Steve, I tried cancelling out of the login, but I simply got the response, "you must be logged into Playstation Network" to use Netflix. "

I've calmed down since yesterday, which is good. But the ban on all future Sony products remains in effect around here.
