Second Dodge, First diesel

Will my fuel economy improve?

I'm planning to buy a 1 ton Dodge diesel, 4-wd.

I have some options: a 1993 1 ton, extended cab, 4-wd, with 91k miles. The cab has some rust on the bottom, under the door sill.

5 speed manual.

Price: 7500

OR a 1995 1 ton 4-wd with auto trans. 107k miles. Price 12,500.

It has a new trans, and has alot of bells and whistles.

I plan to take off the old bed, and place a custom bed, that is of my own design on it.

Looking for advice.

I'm a land surveyor, and need one that can carry a 860# Polaris 4-wheeler, and all my tools in a custom utility bed. All up, it will have about 2500# payload most of the time.

What is your advice?

Nate

I have a '93 right now, same as above but no rust and it has 186k. All stock, runs excellent, built like a tank. I think the older style would hold up better for what you are doing. My '93 has always been used hard and it is still running strong. I have only done maintenance on it, no major work.
