Greetings.

From day one, I have experienced a fair amount of soot build up on the right rear quarter, bumper and even a little on the tailgate.

At first I thought it may be caused by negative air pressure created by my mud flaps, but now I am starting to wonder. The truck is white, so it stands out. The truck is clean right now, otherwise I would post a picture.

Does anyone else experience this?

By the way, I am talking about a completely stock truck. I have recently put on a Banks exhaust, but I really haven't driven it since.

me too... just got back from a 2600 mile romp and my fender was black (my truck is silver)... came off thank goodness... what surprized me is that i was driving solo... i mean no trailer no one else but my fat butt(it is a one ton so it is rated to haul ME!:D ) and drove a steady 72mph the whole trip... major soot...

I get some too but since I put a exhaust tip on it it is not that bad anymore. I don't think they have the tailpipe out far enough.

Do you guys also have mud flaps?

The Ø5" tip in the Banks exhaust sticks out a bit farther, hopefully that will help.

Ken.

A normal thing although seems a little worse on the stock 04. The 99 with Banks exaust still does it but not quite as bad. Just look at it this way... ..... No rust there. I'm sure it has something to do with the mud flaps... ... . but a DRW with no flaps?????

Yep, it’s happened on my '97, '00, and '03 duallys. The tailpipe is designed for a single rear wheel truck. The mud flap, dual rear wheels, and dually fenders create air turbulence that causes soot to deposit on the rear of the truck. I use the 4" tip from Geno’s, which minimizes the soot on the rear quarter panel and rear bumper.

I have an 01 w/ mudflaps, but have never had any soot. When we installed the Jardine 4", we cut the tip off the oem exhaust and welded it onto the Jardine. Guess we got it far enough out and back to eliminate the turbulent air.

my right rear quarter and tailgate would turn coal black which i believe was due to the large dually flap not letting the air flow go over the tailpipe.

i added a 6" flare tip to the 5" exhaust and it stays clean now.

get a exhaust tip from genos it will extend the tail pipe beyond the fender.

when I picked my truck up at the dealer the mechanic that went over the truck with me told me to get one or I would have a black fender I got one no black fender now
