I finally noticed that my truck's new tailpipe is finally mostly coated with soot more than 2 weeks after going straightpipe.

It started me thinking... . For those of you who have put new exhausts on, how long did it take to be solid black inside, and how long would it take to plug up a muffler?

I am still running with the original stock exhaust and todate it still is not plugged up. :) I am waiting for the pipe over the rear axle to spring a leak so that I can put on a proper mandrel bent pipe. Also still have the original brake pads and shoes on this puppy. :) Sure is one tough truck!!!

Quit waiting. It's stainless and it'll outlast you. Just get it done :)

By your sig. you've got a lot going in with a stock exhaust. Let her breath with a 3. 5 inch exhaust - you wont be sorry. Your EGT's will drop, mileage will improve and it will just plain feel better. All that for under $500. Good Luck

Happy Trails

Bob,

Up to now EGT's have not been a problem around town where I do about 95% of my driving. I have in the back of my mind to put on an Exhaust Brake, but somehow I just haven't quite convinced myself that I can justify one. ;) Other than my boat or the utility trailer when we go hunting I don't really pull anything that requires an e brake, but it would be nice. So I don't want to change the exhaust system until I decide if I would get the remote mount or the turbo mount e brake. :)

Cheers,

Al

Black soot all gone

I have a 3. 5 exhaust running the full length with a Dynomax muffler dumping into a 5" stainless steel tailpipe (looks like a 1 gallon paint can... LOL). That get black with soot within 10 minutes of me running the truck. What I have found to clean that soot right up is BleachWhite that you use on your whitewall tires. Spray it on and watch the soot come right off making it look new again. I usually spray it well, scrub a little with a fine brush, hose it down while spraying water up the pipe (watch out, back splash will kill ya) then one more time with the spray bottom and rinse. Looks great every time.
