I wouldn’t say it’s normal, but it is common. It happened once in my ‘14 early on in its life and was fixed under warranty. I really can’t remember the exact problem. It made it around 80K miles then happened again. I brought it back in while still under warranty to get it fixed again. The service manager looked at it and told me nothing was wrong. Sometimes things just leak and he doesn’t have time to dig any deeper. The conversation did not go good from there. I left without them fixing it. Dealership owner called me later that day and apologized. Asked me to bring the truck back to get fixed. Nope, and my next truck will not be thru you.

thanks fellas. 37,000 miles. i bought a mopar extended warranty before the china flu. glad i did. i wish the service writers for ram would read these forums. last time i took truck in for recall they said nothing to see with that soot. cheers! :)

It looks like soot from the EGR bypass valve shaft. That is a pretty normal condition but it appears it got some condensation in the manifold and slobbered the soot out. I would not be overly concerned, and would not make a special trip in unless it's going to run out of warranty soon.

I'm with Sag2. Unless warranty about to expire I would just clean it off with cleaner and keep an eye on it. Mine did that a few times before the parts fell off and when they did i looked around for what would have caused the problem and never did figure it out.
