I only have 3100 miles on my new ride and have noticed excessive soot on the rear quarter panel and bumper. I never had it on my 99 with 183K miles. I just thought the soot seemed a little strange because I have never seen any black smoke. Is this soot just part of the breaking in process?

Thanks,

Paul

I had the same thing, I think it's normal. I used some really fine steel wool get take it off the bumper. I think you can buy some spray that'll take it off also. If you get stacks, you will no longer have the issue. :D

I use the Megs 4" Stainless Steel Tip from Geno's to cure the soot on the rear quarter panel and rear bumper on my truck.

I did the same. The Megs works (and looks) great. I extended it out about two inches past the old tip. No more soot.

Mine did it when new, no bombs. It lessened some when I added mudflaps, but then seemed to spread it around more. It washed off with just the regular car wash soap, nothing harsh. Just a little more elbow grease, but nothing that I would consider a nuisance. Now that I have duals and more fuel, I get to wash both sides, but now I see it as a badge of power.

I noticed the same thing on mine after returning from a trip to Dallas. Took a picture and just haven't posted the same question you did. Thanks! I didn't think my truck smoked much either, but when driving a highway and going to pass someone, take a peek in your mirror when you punch it. Or simulate that same situation while your driving sometimes. She'll smoke until the turbo spools up... .

Mine does it too. Its black so you dont notice it until a wash job. Iv learned to wash the lower right rear fender last due to soiling my wash rag with soot.
