A little bit down the road I think I'm going to replace my 5" straight pipe with stacks. I like the look of the pipes that go straight up with no turn at the end. Correct me if I'm wrong, but when it rains and you start the truck, won't sooty water come raining back down on the truck?

If so, what's the best way to deal with it?

Thanks!

It usually hasn't been much of a problem. Even when it rains. You can get rain caps or Stack Hats to put over the top, to keep rain out. I have my plumbing so it goes towards the y-pipe and down to the bottom elbow. Have a drain hole in that.

i dont have real serious soot issues unless after a really heavy rain i hang on the go pedal right after startup. i usually let the truck idle for a minute or so, that gives time for most of the moisture to discpate.

yup, even if I didn't idle it for a while, if I just drove slow for a while, it would get rid of most of the water... oddly enough, *I* got more soot on my truck with my turnouts than I did with my miters...

I had turnouts on my '91. 5 and got a huge puff of black crap falling all around when started, especially if it was raining. On the '03 with mitre cut stacks I get absolutely no crap coming out of them. They don't have a bunch of caked up stuff inside them either. I think the newer trucks just run that much cleaner. Rain, even alot of rain and not driving for a week doesn't seem to be a problem either.
