I have 2006 Mega Cab 3500 4x4 Laramie SRW with the 6 speed stick.

I have added an aftermarket air cleaner system.

Stock Tires. Firestone Air Bags, Turnover Ball Hitch in the truck, Fifth Airborne hitch on the trailer, so I can get the whole unit pretty level.

We are going away for Thanksgiving and need some advice on what settings to use for the Smarty.

Our 5th wheel is 36 foot with 4 slides. Total Truck and Trailer is ~24,000

(My wife packs light... ... ... ... . sigh, I'm guilty as well)

I will stay around 65 mph to keep the rpm around 2,100.

A previous post suggested SW3, TQ2, TM3, RP1 ?

Or should I just set it at SW3 and go?

I have had the Smarty for over a year, very pleased with it, are there any new software updates I need to do as well?

Oh, my trip will be in FL, (if that matters in the Smarty Settings)

Thank You

John

Do you have gauges? If not, I would not go above sw1, especially towing heavy. I tow on sw3(Revo), tm3 , tq1, rp1, it gets fairly warm on hard pulls, 1200+, but I'm moving alot of air.

Next summer I am going to tow on sw1, see if I can get better than <10mpg. Also, if I set the tq above 1, my cruise surges.

+1000 on the gauges. you can melt the engine real easy otherwise.

A smarty JR might have been a better choice. Just put in the tow tune and go. On my '03 the perf tune won't slip my clutch or melt stuff down even when towing heavy. 1250 F thats it.

My Smarty jr would slip the DMF clutch on my '07, 5. 9. I swaped my DMF out at 20,000mi. The FIRST clutch I have ever had to replace because of slippage in my 40+ years of driving... . Including my carrer at UPS.

I'm at 18,000 lbs with my 11k 5er.

I have 80hp injectors. I was running SW1 (TM2, TQ2, RP1) for quite a while. Ran great. Then I tried SW1 (TM3, TQ2, RP1) and it ran not as great. I tried the TM3 because of my aftermarket injectors, but not because it didn't run great at TM2.

Then, just for sanity sake, I tried SW3 (TM3, TQ2, RP1) and it runs awesome. EGTs are lower than SW1, not sure why... 1200F max

My point is you have to try different settings and see what works best for you. With my injectors and SW3, I'm at a theoretical 140hp gain and it runs great with low EGTs even towing.

I think the most important setting for power is the TQ. It really wakes up the bottom end and I've noticed I don't have to floor it and wait for the truck/trailer to start moving with the TQ2 vs. TQ1 (stock) from a stop.

Timing helps with the EGTs. Since you have stock injectors, I would use TM2.

Also, with my mods and SW3, I have no visible smoke or haze.

Hope this helps,

Louis
