I had nothing to do Saturday, so I stopped by Dodge. Came home with an 04 3500 Ho 325 / 600. Still feeling guilty about liking the quiet, still don't like the grill. Do like the truck. Anyway - New guy questions.

1) How do I tell if I have an 04 or an 04. 5.

2) nay big monsters out there that I got myself into?

Thank You

AC

1. The sticker on the valve cover will say 325 HP if it's an 04. 5, 305 if its an '04.

2. You've owned one before, you know about the Bombing bug. Take a deep breath and say "Why no honey, I don't know where those upgrades came from. Did you order them?"

i have 1500 miles on my truck and im already getting an edge ez at the end of the week and gauges to soon follow. check the valve cover as mentioned. good purchase.

You will not be sorry. Mine has 6,000 miles on it and it keeps getting better and better. When I parked my 2001 next to the 2004 at first I liked the old one better, But Duke (my 04. 5) has won my heart and now I like the new grill much better. I love the extra creature features on the new truck, handling, the way it handles the load steering, ride, visibility, payments (just kidding)

If you need to find if a new truck is a 04 or a 04. 5 check the exhaust pipe. The 04. 5 has a full 4" exhaust system and a huge catilic converter on it.

Look under the truck. If there is a cat converter, you have an 04. 5. . Just a muffler and you have an 04. Real easy if you can't read the fine print of the valve cover. The 04 is only 305 hp and the 04. 5 is 325 but the 04 gets better mpg and will leave the 04. 5 in the dust. . Been there, done that! :-laf

I would recommend getting the gauges installed before the Edge. It doesn't take much to get the EGT's up quickly from what I have seen on my buddy's truck.

1) Checked the valve cover - It's a 325 - Window sticker agrees with that.

2) MPG does seem to be worse, but, then I haven't started yet.

3) Promiced myself - no engine bombs - We'll see how long that lasts.

4) Only thing I wish that I had brought from the '99 is the Transfer Flow.

5) Working on towing stuff now - Pullrite ordered - Thank You Klenger.

Brake controller ordered.

Parts to fix camper ordered.

Hope the labs don't eat the camper.

Looking forward to getting back on the road.

Wife likes the quiet - Resistance is probably futile - The '99 just sounded Soooooooo good.

Congrats, made the same move myself 4 months ago. The grille grows on you!

Had a 99 with Edge Comp, 4 inch exhaust, K&N FIPK, guages, etc. , thought I'd keep it forever!

NO BOMBS!!! Come on, you've been bitten! Once a bomber, always a bomber!

AC,

I told myself, that instead of bombing my 2001. 5 ETC Auto, that it'd be cheaper to get the new 305/555 HO Six speed and leave it stock. Truck runs awesome and really I don't need any more power; I can hold almost 60mph at 18,000 lbs GCVW up the steepest hills around here but sometimes I find myself reading DLeno's fueling box summary and other related info! Gee, maybe resistance IS futile! LOL.

The grill will grow on you. When I first got the truck, I was going to get the grill painted body color (like the sports) to lessen the "huge chrome grill" look, but by the time I got the time to do it, I didn't think I needed too. 2nd gen grills look "scrunched up" to me now. Funny how the mind works.

Anyway, although I like the quiet most of the time, I do catch my head turning to hear the pleasing 2nd gen sound as one powers away from a stoplight and at those moments, I miss the sound of my '01. 5. Just don't tell anybody!... . especially GaryK6GQ or RustyJC! :D

Maybe its time to look at a different muffler. Drone, I ain't afraid of no stinking drone! :D

Cheers,

Dave

When I get my '05 I plan to head up to the oregon coast. . on my way up I'll have to stop by your neck of the woods so we can do a stock vs. stock drag race of the 04/555 to the 05/600... just for posterity sake of course. :)

Jeepdude. . If your planning to come up this way, hold off on your shell and buy from the Snug Top dealer here in Grants Pass. NO SALES TAX and there is an on-line $40 coupon on top of that. There are some great spots off 199 to camp on the way to the coast. Then there is Harris State Beach. Nothing in Calif comes close to that place. They even have cable tv hook-ups for the RV! Clean beaches also. Trash isnt an issue on Oregon beaches. I was just in Southern calif and couldnt beleive the trash at Huntington Beach! I grew up in Newport Beach (Orange County) Calif and boy, has it changed! No one speaks english! :--)

Drop me a pm when you plan to head up I-5. Ill be here or at my ranch in Chico Calif. 50/50 in both places

Ask your salesman what you bought. Whatever he tells you, you most likely have the other

True so True. I was told that mine was the 305HP. But this is before I knew about the 325HP.
