I decided to pull the carpet up in my truck and add some sound proofing material and to my surprise on the drivers side the underlay was soaking wet. Removed the side panel with the air vent and noticed that the foam seal that goes between the plastic housing of the vent and the side metal panel was pretty well useless. I am fairly confident that is the cause of the leak. I will replace the seal and put the panel back on and then use the hose to confirm if that was the problem. I also pulled the cowl grill by the windshield wipers to get a better look, but couldn't see anything. Any suggestions or comments will be appreciated.

I found wet carpet on my 93 couple months ago. I found the dr. side slide vent leaking. I found it to be a poor set up with that seal and the way they channeled it. I decided to silicone my vent shut then siliconed it back in. I also had some small holes in the floor board from the wet carpet. after repairing have not had no water in hope this helps

Kurt,

I agree that vent is not a very good design and I may just seal it up permanently. To make sure that the vent was the only thing that was leaking I taped the vent shut with some plastic and duct tape and then used the garden hose. Found two other leaks, one was the seal on the top and bottom of the windshield and also the plastic plug that covers the access hole to the bottom hinges was not sealing properly. Well at least it was a nice sunny day today. Hopefully tomorrow I will get the truck back together again.

My truck still leaks every time it rains I think it is some kind of design flaw. I found that under my carpet was just a large rubber mat holding the moisture in and rusting the floor. So I just took the carpet out and making a three peice floor mat to cover the trans tunnel and the floorboards. The mat lets air under it letting the floor dry out and keep the noise down. Since I have done this I hane not had a problem with a rusty floor.

I am with you middodge, I had a 83 that leak too. I have notice on my 92 that when it rains real hard, water comes thru my right side vent window at the bottom of the window at the swing hinge , the runs down the door panal to the rubber door weather stripping gasket , then the water runs onto the carpet. I have check the kick panal vent, but it looks like it is not comeing from there. I take air and blow the leaves out once a year in the out side vent (cal. area) so the leaves will not plug the drain holes up.

My 69 4x4 Slant-Six had leaked(driver's side) so much that the floorboards were rusted clear through causing holes big enough to see the ground flowing by between your legs.
