I know alot of you wish your Cummins Dodge were even louder but some of us would like to drop the ambient noise level in the cab by a few decibels. I purchased some 1 1/2" aircraft quality soundproofing material from www.supersoundproofing.org. This stuff is some kind of spendy. I cut a complete ONE PIECE blanket to fit over the engine and than addressed the bare metal you will find on the firewall both inside the cab and on the engine side. It takes a little time and a fair amount of measuring and pushing the material into place but the results are Very noticeable. I did this last year before towing six horses to Arizona in August and had no trouble at all with underhood temperatures bothering the material. This stuff is designed to withstand over 200 degrees so as long as you don't have it laying against the turbo there shouldn't be any problem. I can now go down the highway and here every word my wife says. I never would have tried for these results with my first wife;)

I like the Cummins Noise

but for those of you that dont I understand and will give another thought, recently I installed a new clutch because my truck is a stud:D and i thought I would take it for a spin before I re-installed the boot inside the cab, wow was that thing noise , it was very loud. So with that being said I can tell you that there are 2 layers to the boot , the first layer is simple and bolts to the floor and has a rubber boot around the stick shift , then you have the second layer that is pretty much the same thing only with an air gap of about 6 or 8 inches between the two, I would think that a guy could fill that void with insulation and cut down on the noise a bit, the job would be simple and could be done fron the cab by removing your cup holder center deal out, try it and you will see what I meen... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... The blanket on the engine just lays on top and is held in place b y the hood when it's closed. As for the pieces on the firwall there are a bunch of things to sandwich the material between such as the ridgid brake lines on the engine side of the firewall and the steering shaft collar on the inside of the firewall. Take a look and you'll see what i mean. Hope that helps. Sageair
