So has anyone tried this stabilizer from Source Automotive? Does it work? Does it really tighten up your steering? Just curious because mine seems to be getting looser and this seems like it could make things better. Let me know what you all think.

Thanks,

Chris

That looks to be the DSS unit like I have installed - they are great for strengthening the lower end of the steering box, especially on 4x4's that see lots of rough country and off road use - but they shouldn't be considered a "cure" for a steering box that already has significant wear and looseness. I consider my own as a PREVENTATIVE device, not a "cure" or band aid for a problem that is already present...

agreed ^^^^. They're made in Canada so, it probably just as much if you were to buy direct. It would get to you a lot quicker buying through Source Auto.

Can you use that DSS with a KORE HD Leveling Kit? Seems like a smart piece of insurance if your truck is fairly new. That along with the Thuren Track Bar ought to be a good investment.

I put one on my 98 12v Ram (2 wheel) in desperation trying to cure the wandering problem before I knew the real cause. It did help a little, if any. It may be of more value on a 4 wheel than a 2 wheel. Just a guess on my part. I like the idea of the steering box being supported by both frame rails.

I orderedmine from Piers - I think he was located in Canada at the time, and paid no markup - actual price at that time was about $149 + shipping as I recall...

I think that's an old price. Piers current price is a little higher depending on year of truck.

Might have to use the extended links for that to work if you have the drop blocks installed from the looks of the picture?

Looks like I got a new item added to my list.

Has anyone used the DSS along with a front receiver that mounts in the same location.

Doug

I have both mounted on my truck and it works great but just barely. The modified/extended pitman arm nut is just long enough to get through the bearing so either the 'locking ring' style or the 'allen screw' style bearing locking mechanism (depending on which unit you purchase) can get a bite into it. Only other issue you may have is getting longer mounting bolts to go through both units and still have six or seven turns into the frame. DSS is a great steering upgrade (I was very skeptical at first if it was going to be worth it but it is) and the front receiver is better than hooks and using it to park trailers in tight spots is so great. PM me if you want more info.

That $150 price from piers and off the DSS site are old, like years old. The price of steel and such have gone up quite a bit since then. I really doubt that Rip or anyone else would mark that brace up over about 10% of the cost.

I have installed two of those braces (one on my truck and one on my fathers old truck). They are worth the $$.
