I would appreciate recommendation for Rancho 9000's. My local supplier wants me to fund his new boat with profit on my shocks!

hotrod-offroad used to be the best source/price, but they are now evidently closed. $60 each ought to be enough.

I just bought 4 Ranchos at Advance Auto Parts. The list price was $62. 99 but when I whined about that being too high, they knocked off 15%. Plus they are on sale, i. e. , 4 for the price of 3. Total price for 4 shocks: $170. 67 (includes 6% for Gov. Ridge) #ad

We have one local chain, NAPA and Shucks. The rest are independent shops. They are quoting $80 (buy 4) and $83 (buy 3 get 4).

I bought a set of Monroe Sensitracs last fall for my 2500. They have a soft spot at level no load cruising for a soft ride. On the interstate they're great for a floating soft sprung feel. Around 40-45mph, the rear axle oscillation is a bit bothersome. So my querry is, with the Rancho's can you go soft enough to find that rear axle oscillation or stiff enough to end all bounce from the axle. I may go with the Ranchos if I can eliminate the harmonic axle bounce and still have a decent ride.

Steve, The primary purpose of the shock is to control speed at which the wheel returns to its normal position after the spring has been compressed. Unfortunately, most over control the compression (too stiff), and don't have enough control on the rebound. This results in axel "hop" after compression, and the osciliation I think you are feeling. Sounds like your Monroes are too soft for the application.
I haven't talked to a Rancho dealer yet who knows what is controlled by the adjustor on the 9000's - compression, rebound, or both.

CharlieP-
I got a set of R-9000's at Desert Rat in Albuquerque last year (yeah, I know, Desert Rats are hard to come by in AK). As I recall, they were a little <$80 each INSTALLED. I stood around and watched the guy put 'em in, which he of course hated. I would've paid $100 each! Don't have air tools, lift, etc. They even gave me the factory shocks backe- in the Rancho boxes. I run them with the rears set at alltheway soft unless there's a load in the back and the fronts up one click from soft. Great ride, no hop, no never. I thought about getting the in-cab control (another $129), but find I've never had occasion when it would have been that much of a convenience. They're a piece of cake to adjust on the Ram, what with the gigantic wheelwells, even with larger tires. The only thing you'll get dirty in the process are the thumb and index finger of whchever hand you choose to use. Takes about a minute to do all 4. Good luck.

Since the subject has come up-i have a question relating to the 9000. I have heard so many positive posts about these I was wondering if they would be adviseable for use on a 3500 4x4 that will be towing a 14K 5er. I hadn't heard to much about how they do in a load situation.
