Anyone know where to find one, other than the dealer? I haven't asked them about the price yet, but I know what to expect. Called NAPA, they went ... unhhhhh? Steering Control whatzits?

Reason being is my drag link to control arm connection is very sloppy, and control arm bore is egg shaped:mad: Thought I read a thread on here not long ago about this same thing, but can't find it. TIA

Pat

PS. For clarity sake, I don't need the pitman arm, just in case I confused anyone:)

Update

Got the part number from dealer:

3894129 Steering Knuckle upper control arm and cap

Price (gulp): $472:mad:

My friendly parts counter girl told me she would let me have it for $350 (thanks a lot:rolleyes: )

So, what am faced with, junkyard?

Hopefully I spoke too soon earlier when I said the arm was egged out, since I haven't tore it down yet and my xray vision is not what it used to be. My drag link, new 3 years ago, is from TRW. Talking to two guys today at NAPA who said they had nothing but problems with TRW drag links (on Dodge trucks), lucky to get a year out of them. They looked at mine and thought it could be wear on the stud from a loose connection. When I did the kingpins I retorqued to spec, but... Anyone else have similar experience?

Thanks, sorry for the length

Check with your local four wheelers who run Dana 60's. This part is commonly replaced by guys running lift kits. The replacement is higher to correct the steering angle.

I got a couple of trucks, one converted to crossover steering ,and another with full hydralic with dana 60F. I just don't have a cap to put on. The other thing is these are both 1970's front diffs, not for sure if the arms are the same, probably are. Please don't make me go out and look tonight its about 0*F outside with wind!! I have never seen a taller replacement, ususally a block is added under it.

I think you will have problems finding one in a junkyard, but I have been wrong lots before.

Let me know if you would be interseted in one of mine, provided yours is wallered out. I wonder what one of the caps is worth?

Michael

If all of the four wheelers have not hit up the wrecking yards before you, you should be able to find one. Fits 1970?-1993 all with D60. These axles are hot items so go early on saturday morning.

Thanks for the responses, guys!

Michael, tell me about the weather! We are getting what you guys got, last night 6*, wind about 20mph, about 20" of snow on the ground so far and more coming. Not very conducive to working on truck in driveway. When I get to it I'll PM you about the control arm, thanks for the offer.

Dodgenstein, didn't realize that they make a taller control arm, I thought you dealt with lift by putting a drop pitman arm on. We have a $X$ specialty shop here, I'll give them a call and see what the scoop is. If you use a block to raise the cap, what happens with the spring and bushing on the upper king pin? Stronger/longer spring? Different bushing? I'm curious now.

To the best of my knowledge nobady makes a taller arm for the dana 60. I know that they make them for the dana 44. I have used the 3" steernig block in the past. It comes with longer studs and a spacer that goes inside for the spring to contact. Works great. I have never had a problem with these dana60 spacers. They are available from skyjacker and from superlift and others.
