Got my South Bend installed on the 20th of April. I previously had a MCLeod. The noise and the vibration of the MCLeod were too much for me thus the change. The South Bend is as quiet and vibration free as the stock clutch. Now the big questions. Does it hold? Most definitely. Does it chatter? Some. Not nearly as much as the MCLeod, but yes it does some. Will it hold as well as the MCLeod? I don't know. For my upgrades it's just fine. I towed MY toy box TT with both Harleys to Laughlin, about 9000lbs, and no slipping what so ever. Am I happy. You Bet!!!!!!!!!!!!!, it's a keeper.

My Southbend is holding nicely after less than a month. Mine chatters like an SOB and if it doesn't ease up soon, I may get rid of it (as in go back to stock, de-mod the truck, and sell it).

BUT, fwiw, I made a trip to LA last week with my camper, to bring back a friend's wrecked Jeep Cherokee. On the trip home, my GCWR was about 20k, and I pulled the Grapevine at 55 mph in 5th without any trouble at all. It definitely holds the power, even my 400+ hp and gosh knows how much torque.

Rob

Which South Bend did you get? Mine is the full contact not the one with the pucks. A little chatter, but not much.

ROBG, Which South Bend did you install?

Did you have the fly wheel resurfaced?
If yes do you know what method was used?

Rob put in the 2001 FE and is having some problems. I can't quite figure out what is going on, it is inconsistant with the other reports on the same clutch. Not only the excessive chatter but he also has a hard peddle. I told him to get me the old one to rework in case it is the clutch but it sounds like something else is going on. Any suggestions from the install pro's

It sounds like the throw out bearing is hanging up. Maybe the fork is not pushing evenly on the bearing -- that may cause binding and excessive chatter... JMHO

I have the 2001 CON FE and it feels a little easier than the stock clutch. Almost no chatter unless I slowly release the pedal at under 1000 RPM in second.

Good luck Rob. . Although you will most likely be removing the trans again to fix. . This is a problem that you should be able to find and fix.
