South Florida in July

Can anyone who lives in Florida comment on the summer temps? We have two weeks off and want to visit the whole state including the Keys. What can we expect? Will it be a humid Hades? Bearable temps?

Florida is usaully hot in the summer. Southern Florida and the Keys are just plain fun. If you are taking your 5er some old parks are a little tight. The further you go south the price goes up. If you go toward Tampa/St. Pete go to Johns Pass for the day. Touristy but nice. KOA at mile marker 19 in the Keys is very nice but pricey/$80 per night, resturant , lounge , entertainment, fishing,etc. . . Next mile marker down is a less expensive park . fort desoto is great, and i think it is like 18 a night. that is on the north side of tampabay where the gulf meets the bay, just ranked #1 beach in the country. plenty of biking and hiking.



temps, as long as you are on the coast, there will be a breeze, which will keep everything tolerable.



i would stay away from the east coast, i do not think it is as pretty and it is more crowded.





sebastian inlet is also supposed to be nice, i am waiting for winter to go there.

Just got back

Texas Diesel;

Just got back (April/1st wk May) done what you are thinking about Went down the Gulf coast and up the Atlantic coast. Stayed mostly in the state camp grounds. Good and roomy, all have water electric hookups and dump stations. most are paved. Average price at these camps are $19. 00 to $25. 00 tops. All ask if you have reservations, which is advisable if you know when you will be at that area. I didn't have any trouble getting in at most places but I was earlier, before the tourist season. Sebastian Inlet is very popular. Make a reservation there. Lots of Gators to see in Southern Florida. If you want more info send me a PM/E-mail.

I used to live in Sebastian and it was a great place back then (70's,80's), fishing, sailing, fishing , sailing, fishing, sailing... ... ... . that was how the days were, as a kid, for me Some great shrimping at the inlet at the right time of year. My Uncle lived in a house on old US 1 directly across from the inlet... they did not like shrimp but loved catching them. All the better for me We also used to do a lot of camping on the islands in the middle of the river. I even miss the smell of the Indian river at low tide.

Just north of the inlet (where the state park is) on the west side is a county park. It is about 5 miles from the highway back through the flats to get to it. IT IS GREAT!



We stay there rather than the state park. Way more open, you can camp right on the water, like 2' from the water. Take your boat and park your boat right at your camper door. We liked to watch the porposes swimming right by the bank and the mackerl jumping.

I think there are about 200 sites, about 1/2 have ews, all have ew.

Fla for the past 34 years and it does get hot and humid here in the summer. Closer to the coast (left and right) and the temps do drop. St. Augustine is a great place to visit also.
