Well, it took most of the day on good Friday, but it's IN!!!

My stock clutch went south after being under the constant barrage of EZ box with 275 injectors and a heavy foot.

Install went quite smoothly, although that crossmember turned out to be more of a devil than we though it would.

Did the install in my uncles garage starting at 10:30 AM.

Had to do a 200 mile trip right after the install (going home), and all was well.

No more slipping.

This clutch engages REALLY smooth, and has a very nice feel.

5th wheel gets hooked up next weekend, and that will be the REAL test... .

PS- I was impressed by the "kit" that Southbend sends up with the clutch, complete with install tool, alternate pilot bearings, and a new throwout bearing. Good work Peter!

My conofe is in the garage. Going to try and get it put in this week. I am glad you like it and I hope I like mine as well.

If I had to do this again, I'd have a PortaPower sitting in my back pocket for that crossmember.

You'll save serious time if you can get that out without malletting for 40 minutes.

;)

Hey Okie, got mine sitting in the garage too. I was planning on doing it at Howards place but not sure if I'm gonna have the time.

I'm off the week after that though. Might try to stuff it in then.

Got my Con-OFE in last week. It amazed me, all my mechanic friends said "Nice, but I could have got you the same clutch from this local guy". I replied " you mean a SouthBend". "No" they said, "but it looked like that one". They didn't even know what a SB was. OH well. Good luck guys, and yes a PortaPower is a necessity.

Crossmembers are easy if you remove the transmission mount BOTH from the crossmember AND the transmission. Jack the trans up to the floor, tap on the bar to loosen, then up, back and out.

I can't believe anybody would recomend speading the frame rails.

Glad it worked out for you. Awesome clutch ain't it? Congrats

We actually did remove the transmission mount from the crossmember and transmission - it was still a dogs breakfast.

One thing for sure, it's nice to have EVERYTHING you are gonna need right there. I had a resurfaced flywheel sitting there ready to go, so no waiting for a mill shop during the install.

Got everything up here in Canada from Diesel Power Plus, who got everything I needed in lightning fast time. I was in a rush.
