Soybean Oil in Bulk

Why couldn't you but the 5 gallon containers of the Soybean oil for $12 ea. and pour directly into your 12 valve? would this work, or does it also need to be filtered. . because isn't this stuff at it's cleanest point anyway?Why use waste oil then filter it back to clean again>, i don't get it?Would this work on all Cummins motors?

I don't see a problem with this. I personally would not run more than 20% veggie oil mixed with stright #2.

They never tryed to run it on an old 12 valve now did they... :-laf I guess those newer fuel systems are having issues with rubber lines? i suppose if you added #2 to the mix it might cut the viscosity down a little.

Where did you find the oil that cheap. The cheapest I could find it around . 91 a quart in those containers. The cheapest fresh oil will be non-foodgrade oil.

If you are thinking you can run your 12 valve on a blend of #2 and SVO then yes you can do that without a conversion. If you think you can run your 12 valve on 100% SVO without a conversion, well yes you can do that too... ... ... for a while.

The rubber fuel lines thing is for biodiesel, not SVO

How long before i change my fuel filter and how many times before it doesn't clog up so quick do i need to change it? Also. . does running more than a 75% mix of the soybean oil and #2 create sludge in the tank over time possibly?

Are you confusing biodiesel with SVO? They are NOT the same!



When you will have to change your filter will vary. You should always have a spare with you if you plan to run SVO OR Biodiesel

In my 98. 5 I changed it once in 6 months/ 20,000 miles, in my 96 I have yet to change it in the past 5 months/ 10,000 miles. I do recommend to always carry 2 spare fuel filters even if you never run anything but petro because it only takes a little water to mess up your day.

It's not mixed with methanol or lye or filtered or ANYTHING it's the stuff u pour into the pan BEFORE u suck it from the grease trap... does that help?

So you want to add SVO to your tank without any type of added heating?

Make sure the SVO you buy is NOT hydrogenated.



I would not go more than 50/50 mix on a 12v in your climate.

down to 20-30 %SVO in the winter.



I'm not sure how long your filters will last, I don't normally use new oil.



If you tank is metal you could run into some sludge building up over time due to the SVO reacting to the zinc in the galvanized coating.

I would not run more than 10% blend in a 24 valve... ... in warm weather.

Even at that I would be worried about the stock lift pump.



To effectively run SVO up to 100% YOU NEED TO HEAT IT!

Costco has 35 Lb (no liquid measurement on box) totes of Soybean Oil for $11. 99

I just bought 4 boxed-plastic containers of the Costco soybean oil. Each is about 4. 44 Gallons. They were about $12. 80 in Cal. That's about 2. 81 a gallon. Right now #2 diesel is about 3. 20 a gallon. I dumped 2 of the containers into 30 gals. of #2 in my aux. tank, and am slowly adding it to the (full) main tank.



After all the work to dump those boxed containers into the tank, and then disposing of the containers, I am appreciating the gas station pumps a lot more!! :-laf



My only concern is will the soybean oil leave a residue on the injectors or in the comb. chamber? The Costco oil is refined, so it has been heated to drive out water & impurities. Anybody know??

7 days now... have run about a 50/50 mix of the soybean from costco oil. Not one single issue... MAYBE 1-2 mpg less possible, but same amount of power and WAY less smoke!
