Spanked a Chebbie yesterday!

Rollin' at 25-30mph in traffic, squeeze by a disabled car on right side (everybody gawks!)and at the same time, I move 1 lane to the left from the right and a guy in a blue Chebbie Dudmax Drooley moves from the far left lane to the left center lane...



He glances over and smiles - I look back and nod... Traffic is minimal (as they are all still marveling at the disabled car on the right side - yes, they do break down people!).



He must have had _something_ in there, because when he rolled on to it, he let a little more smoke than normal. I pedaled the mighty 600 to the boards and we were off... I knew if we went too fast, I would lose it due to no 5th gear (48-RE), but I did not plan on racing to those speeds anyways!



My Dodge grabbed 2nd gear (thanks to 3. 73s and 315s) and planted me into the seat! I looked over and saw him grimace as he realized I was not losing ground to him.



We spooled it up to about 80-85... when it was said and done, I had put about 2 truck lengths on him - IN A _STOCK_ 600!! He pulled up next to me, smiled, and headed off the exit ramp...



It was fun - It was also nice to know that our stockers are VERY well matched to the competition. BOMBs will only help!!

As in my sig, I had an '01 - still keep in touch with the guy I sold it to! I miss it sometimes!!

What do you mean you think would loose at higher speeds because you have no 5th gear? Your 4th gear is equivalent to his fifth, he just has closer spacing from 1-5 than you do because you only have 4. Plus with your tires and gears, you might even have a top end advantage over him.

I thought I read somewhere on this board that Chebbies and Furds had an advantage due to the 5-speed autos keeping them more "spooled up" in the higher mph ranges?



Of course, with the encouragement from you, now I wish I was back to try it!!

(Although I didn't want to endanger other freeway travelers with

ridiculous speeds... 80 is the "normal" speed for traffic around here!)

PS - to those that have read my mileage replies in other threads,

this was NOT one of the times my 600 was being "nice" on fuel!
