Put on new rear brakes last night on my '97 2500. Noticed the rear hub bearings were a little loose. I don't have much experience on the little trucks, mainly big rigs. What size spanner nut is on the rear spindles on these pickups. Is there a bearing preload? ;) thanks guys. I almost forgot. Dana 70 . I just don't want to tear it apart without having the tool ready.

Its 2 9/16 and it takes a special socket because the nut has rounded corners. Thats for my 97 and it is prolly the same all the way through. Oops mine is a Dana 80

Oh boy another hard question, when you say spec sheet what is that? The tag under the hood is usually correct. I have heard also of hybrid rear end with parts from 70 and 80 present. Is the nut on the rear axle round with slots in it? my 80 is as described above not round with slots. Might be a tag on the rear end that tells also.

The 70's and 80's have the same size spindle nuts. 2 9/16 rounded corners. I have the psrt number from the KD Tools socket that I bought from NAPA. Let me know if you need the #.

rear spindle nut

By spec sheet i mean what we used to call on the International harvestors; the line setting ticket. It is about 3 pages and lists every part of the truck and everything that is on it. Kind of like the list on the window sticker. Don't know how I got it. From the dealer when new????? Does anyone know if these bearing have to have a torqued preload, or if you just take up the slack?
