I thought I would mention the good luck I had with Amazingkeys.com and their blank keys with the chip inside. My dealer wanted $185 for the key to my '08 3500. I contacted Amazingkeys.com and ordered their key for $24. 99. The key and instructions arrived one day later. I followed their easy to understand instructions. I took the key to a local locksmith to have the key cut and then followed the in vehicle programing instructions. Except for one confirmation chime at the end of the process, which I did not receive, the programing went without incident. The key works perfectly. Just a reminder the key must be used to manually unlock the door. After that it acts just like one of the two original keys that comes with the truck.

Sweet! I just bought my truck and the dealer only gave me one key with it. They said that they didn't have another key for the truck. I've been trying to get a spare key just in case I might need it. I'm gonna look into getting a key from the place that you did. thanks

I checked out the web site and it said that you would need to working keys to program your new key.:confused: Not sure why you would buy a third key for a spare if you already have two working keys.

So should I buy the second key from this website? Then have the key cut and take it to the dealer to program it? That would be the cheapest way:rolleyes:

Whay don't you contact Amazingkeys.com at 1-800-533-9583 and check to see if there is a procedure if you only have one programed key.

Tell the dealer that they need to provide you a second, programmed key.

That's what I would do, the Dealer should man-up to furnish two keys. #@$%!

Also you should always have 3 keys on hand, because if you loose one you can program the replacement with the other two. If you only have two keys and loose one you have to have the dealer program the replacement $$$$$$$$.

Or see if one is waterproof... ..... Being an X droF driver. Someone told me to take key one out, turn around twice, and then stick key one back in to act as key two. Never tried it, but one never knows.

I think the dealer has a safety issue regarding the supply of 2 keys, and should "man-up" as well.

Did you get the transponder key with the gray head(no remote unlock feature) or the one with the remote door lock and panic button feature?

I bought several of the transponder keys with the gray head and successfully programmed them to start the truck (a 2008 CTD Laramie). Here is the problem I ran into:

If you try to manually unlock the driver door "and" the door has been locked for "more" than 30-seconds, it will trigger the factory alarm. When you then put the key into the ignition switch and start the truck, the alarm goes off.

Here's the really funny part: Now I didn't know about the 30-second component of this equation and believe me, it had me scratching my head for several days until I went into the dealer to discuss. The darn thing would work ok some times and then it would trigger the alarm - I was just dumbfounded..... I would reprogram a key, get out of the truck fast and try it in the door lock, it would work right, then later I would go back to the truck to use it to unlock the door and the alarm would go off... . Yikes!

I just love it when engineers add a little humor to their work!

Sorry, I forgot another important thing the dealer told me. This problem with the cheaper transponder keys triggering the factory alarm only shows up on the trucks with only one outside lock on the driver side. I think this is the 2006 to 2008 models, as the earlier ones have locks on the passenger side door too.
