Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Preboost Screw Adjustment

I am looking to install a Transfer Flow rear Aux fuel tank.

To do so requires that I relocate the spare.

Has anyone put the spare on a holder in front of the grill?

If so, where did you get the holder.

And, does it effect the air flow/cooling?

Since I pull big trailer's and 5th wheels, keeping the engine cool while climbing long hills in high temps (118 in Vegas last week) I do not want to interfere with cooling.

Thanks

Drawtite makes a tire holder that goes into a reciever hitch. That plus a front hitch would work. BUT, I always though it would block too much air. I have been trying to figure out the same issue with my truck.

I had to relocate the spare to install a towing hitch on my '93. I had a mount welded up and put it in front of the grill. There was no change in running temperatures towing a 20ft 4 horse gooseneck loaded. But this was in Montana, not Nevada.

Only such experience I've had is with a gasser, but carried a motorcycle (Honda 175) up front, with 11' slide-in camper on back, pulling a boat over 7,000 miles with absolutely zero cooling problems. Never saw a difference on the gauge. Currently have spare tire in front on that same truck, (no more Jap anything for me) no difference, gauge stays the same. I, too thought there might be a problem, proved a lot of nay-sayers wrong.

I Put Spare in the Bed

I made the same changeover. In the SW, I was not big on the idea of reducing airflow to the grille. So I put my spare in the bed, bolted upright to the bed using a shop-made mount. I actually carry two spares, one ahead of the fender well, one behind. I can still get a 4 by 8 foot sheet of plywood fully into the bed.

This won't work (of course) if you have a cabover camper or other stuff in the way.
