my left front speaker in the door has be intermittent at best for quite some time. i have a series of trips coming up so i thought i would fix it. it is not an infinity system, just the standard am/fm/cassette with 4 speakers system. so my question is since it works sometimes and most time not, where is the usual problem? radio output issue, speaker issue, wiring problem? any experiences here?

Most likely a speaker issue, had the same problem with my '99. Driver's door usually fails first because it gets slammed the most and occasionally gets rainwater on it. Since you don't have the Infinity system, replacment is significantly easier, just replace with your preferred brand of speaker. I'd recommend putting some sort of baffle material above the speaker to protect from water, get a couple of extra door panel clips (you'll likely break a couple removing the panel), and be on your way. Good luck!

I had a passenger door speaker that cut in and out when i bought it. Was kinda bummed, cause i figured the wiring was messed up. Installed my Panasonic cd player, and it stopped working completely. Figured the wiring was totally done. Replaced the speakers, and it sounds great. There was nothing left of the factory's. Give it a try
