What size is the woofer in the door of the premium sound system on the 2001? All of the references that I can find say that it is a 6x9 like it was on my 97 but the speaker grill on my new truck is much bigger. I need to cut a piece of aluminum to fit the stock speaker holes so that I can re-drill the aluminum plate to fit the new speakers.

The front speakers for the premium sound are 6x9's. I pulled the door panel and measured. The opening for sound to come out is larger in the panel for "increased" sound projection. #ad

Check this thread. Lots of speaker info. https://www.turbodieselregister.com/ubb//Forum17/HTML/001014.html

I had front and rear speakers replaced yesterday. Yes, on the 2001. 5 vehicles the front speakers power the rears via an added on amp that is crescent shaped and screwed to the back of the speaker itself. My installer added Boston Accoustic 6x9's to the front and 5. 25's to the rear. He was able to remount the small amp inside the door (you need it if you keep the stock Infinity unit). The increase in quality is obvious but not as great as I would like. Later in the year I will install an Eclipse CD player in the dash and have them wire up the steering wheel controls. Just make sure on a new install that the rears are re-wired to go directly to the dash unit and not wired off the front speaker. Any questions - send me an email.
