Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Special ODB II code reader needed?

I have a code reader, but it appears not to be able to communicate with my 2nd gen truck. I have tried the reader on my Jeep and the car and it works fine, do I need a different one for the Dodge?

No, as long as the scanner is obd2 compatable... . then it should work on any obd2 vehicle. If it doesn't read then go to auto zone or advance etc. & they scan them for free.
