Special Snow Chains???

The manual says that it takes a special type of snow chains on a 4X4. What gives? Chris

I guess they must be HD as to endure the highly torqued CUMMINS engine , I personelly build mine out of semi chains, cut them down for length and shorten up the width and then put cross links in-between cross links, when done it takes 2 men and a small boy just to lift one onto the tire. One set of these chains ( 2 tires worth) will almost fill a 5 gallon bucket

If you are heading to the mountains and expecting snow to the top of the hood you will need them.

I got Laclede chains from Checker or some such parts place. It is a good idea to get chains with crossbars on the links that go across the treads. You can get bungee type rubber straps to keep them tight so they won't slap the wheel wells. I got mine at NAPA if I recall. I have chains for all 4 but so far have only used them up front.
