cummins in 86 ramcharger

Has anyone swapped a cummins w/nv5600 into a chev 1ton 4x4?

If you have did you or can you keep the a\c compressor or relocate it and how?

Did you have enough axle to oil pan clearance?

Did you have to use a body lift?

Did you use the original motor mounts on the block or make new ones?

How close was the power steering pump to the frame, did you have to bend the lines?

I have the motor and transmission and t-case sitting in the engine bay and it looks tight. Looking for pics or ideas on how people are shoe-horning these in there. Thanks in advance.

A few things I remember from my buddy's 89 GMC 4X4 conversion-

1. Bought his motor mounts and got the directions for installing them from Randy Blueth at Reliable Diesel in Phoenix, AZ. Crossmember under motor had to relocate forward.

2. 1" body lift to gain clearance (used hockey pucks for lift, worked pretty cool at a couple of bucks each, way cheaper than a regular body lift).

3. Used a first gen CTD Dodge radiator & Intercooler, had to modify core support to make fit.

4. Had to notch frame & front crossmember to fit a/c compressor, but did work ok.

5. Truck had a 3-4" lift on it already, Don't recall how close pan to axle was.

6. Exhaust fabbed from first gen parts, extremely close to a/c box (too close for me, ok for him, I guess).

7. Used a 518 transmission, so no info on the 5600... .

Hope it helps... ... ...

The oil pan clears the NEW crossmember you have to make:)

I did not use a body lift but in retrospect I would recommend one as I had to modify the transmission tunnel a bunch

I made custom motor mounts

The power steering pump fits and yes you have to bend the lines!

Also you have to mod the front crossmenber to get the motor to sit in there nice. and I used the dodge intercooler and AC pump in stock location well almost stock I milled off about . 250" off the mount to move the compressor closer to the block

pm me your e-mail address and I will send you some picture if you want
