Speed and Odometer senders

Does anyone know exactly at what model Dodge changed the speed and odometer senders on models with NV4500's. I have been told that they went to senders in the rear end instead of in the transmission tail housing beginning in the 98 models. Does that include the early 98's with 12V as well? Did the change take place only when they changed to the 24V? Does anybody know?

Dunno when they changed it but my 98 12 valve has the sender in the axle.

If it helps my sender is also in the axel

Mines in the axle on my 1999. I replaced mine about 3 months ago with around 115k on OE.
